As of July 1 it will be illegal in TN to physically touch a mobile device while driving a vehicle, can't even have it in your lap. I am looking for a good spot and mount to install on the truck. Doesn't seem like there is a ton of good spots. I was thinking the vent just to the right of the driver and orient the phone upwards.

Thoughts ?

Just curious: You can't touch it, so why mount it? Will you use voice commands?

Anyway, I made a mount for the A pillar grab handle in my '05 T. It's actually a drop-in rectangular bucket that form fits the phone snuggly, no clamps holding it like Ram mounts. Haven't revised it for the '17 T yet. The grab handles are a little different between the 2. I could post a pic, but while mine works perfectly for me it is pretty, um, utilitarian looking.

Scosche Magic Mount on the dash.

We've had about a decade of no mobile devices here. Scosche makes some of the best mounts around; lots of different options, I've tried a few liked them all, but some work better for different types of users. This is the Magic Mount, a squishy suction cup that sticks to anything including the soft dash material. The phone attaches magnetically to the mount (steel plate mounted inside the case). I mount it horizontally above the radio so it is kind of like an extension of the screen space. Would really like to get the Qii charging version so I don't have to plug in my phone at all.

Google assistant is worlds better than Nissan handsfree. The couple of times I've tried Nissan it's been like being stuck in an Abbott and Costello skit (Who's on first!). Google Assistant just gets it right every time, the maps are up to date, and the traffic is accurate.

Gonna have to agree, Nissan handfree assistant gets me all frustrated like talking to Alexa! Bixby is tons better, along with Google's.

I personally have a pop socket holder stuck where my 4x4 switch would be. Since I have a 4x2, it's a blank round plate.

I use a magnetic mount similar to bankr63's. The downside to these mounts is that you can't wirelessly charge your phone with the metal piece stuck to the back of it.

Unless I misunderstood the law, it's only while the vehicle is in motion. Holding it while sitting still/parked is still legal. I'm not advocating for texting and driving, just saying if you're at a stop light and pick up the phone you have recourse if a cop feels like giving you a ticket.

Here's wording straight from the new law:
(d) This section does not apply to the following persons:
(7) Persons who are lawfully stopped or parked in their motor vehicles or who lawfully leave standing their motor vehicles.
(e) A traffic citation that is based solely upon a violation of this section is considered a moving traffic violation.

Check out the latest Scosche products. They have a Qii charging mount now. Haven't tried it (a bit pricier than the regular mounts), but it's working its way up the wish list.

I have an iOttie mount that I stick to the lower left portion of the windshield. It will do the wireless charging but in the summer time or days when it's full sun and warmer than say 80 degrees, the phone gets so hot, the screen dims and makes using something like Waze hard to see with sunglasses on. Granted, with the 19s that have Apple Car Play/Android Auto, this becomes less of an issue. So, I choose to plug it in to the car charger with a really long cord that I run under the dash and into the console. The phone still gets hot charging but doesn't seem to be quite as affected by the outside temperature.

I'm not sure exactly how Google Assistant/Bixby works (I've tried it and couldn't get it to work as well as Siri so I went back to an iPhone) but, with my phone connected to a car charger, not the USB port, the steering wheel buttons allow me to call up Siri so it makes me wonder why with an Android you're defaulted to the Nissan handsfree assistant, which in my experience is poor.

Never really thought about what the default would be for the button, there might be a setting for that. But why try to find and press a fiddly little button on the steering wheel when all you have to do is say is "Hey Google"?

I got the Weathertech thing and absolutely love it. I would try that first. Only downfall is it takes up cup spot.

On that note, I wish there was cup insert that held 4 instead of 2. Or is there and I'm an idiot?

You can drive with your knee while you hold your shake with your hand. Then with the other hand you can put salt on your fries & burger but do NOT pick up your phone to look at the time. It's 3 points on your driving record. Just put your phone in your cheeseburger and eat around it as you talk. Our cops understand food. Evidently.

Don't forget holding a cigarette/vape pen too.
