There is currently a $50.00 mail in rebate for the Spectre kit good from 09/15/11 to 10/31/11. Here is the link. (thanks to titanss)

Dyno Results: 10hp and 8tq (peak #'s) over my Volant intake.
http://www.titantalk.com/forums/tit.../133431-4-cold-air-intake-10.html#post2470627

15hp gain @ 114mph

Deerslayer ran at the track and here are the results
CORRECTED TIMES
with a 1 hour cool down he ran a 13.76 @98.79
his previous best with an S&B intake was 13.95

So I had an itch because see people modding and making their own 4" intake and or buying the relentless intake.

So I went searching And found that the Spectre Performance 9924 kit which is for the 05-09 Ford Mustang 4.6L would fit out trucks just right. As long as you also purchase the 4" to 3" reducer for our TB along with a 7/8 hole saw and some grommet kits for the hoses. The MAF bolts right in. The whole thing bolts right in( not sure about the heat shield though). The kit was only 99.99 @ pepboys. Cheapest I can find anywhere. I actually checked online and some placed wanted double that price.

There is a sleeve that comes with the kit that inserts into the end where the MAF mounts so that the MAF does not go crazy with the 4" dia tube. Kinda the way the injen narrows down where the MAF is mounted then widens back up... except this is done internally with the spectre kit. I will run with the sleeve until I get re-tuned @ uprev. So I spent about 140.00 bucks on the kit and used my existing Volant air box for the housing. I need to cover gaps on the side of the air-box but other than that this fits great. (It does not matter what year your vehicle is ... you must run with the sleeve or you will run lean unless you can get a tune.)

It pulls way harder than it did with the Volant. Yes I know - seat of the pants dyno, but I felt it.

So parts break down as follows... (All available at pepboys. No special order)

9924 spectre performance 99.99 PRICE HAS GONE UP TO 199.99 WITHIN ABOUT A MONTH AFTER I POSTED THIS THREAD
97611 4" to 3" reducer Spectre performance 13.99 (I think it cost that much)
9713 vacuum/ sensor fitting w/ grommets kit 6.99
8711 intake tube kit. this comes with the vacuum/sensor fittings w grommets and 7/8's hole saw 7.99

I used one fitting/ grommet from each of the last two kits because they only came with one right sized fitting in each kit.

And that's it. I did not try to put together or mount the heat shield from the kit so I have no clue if it would work for our trucks or not.

Okay I think I'm definitely gonna try this!!!! Way cheaper than the relentless RPM intake. Man too bad you didn't think of doing a dyno foe before and after.

I still could but I don't want to shell out the funds for it. lol
And I agree It is way cheaper than the relentless intake. I had no clue the ford mustang kit would work. I was just opening up boxes for like half an hour trying to see which would work best. The One for a ford truck seemed like it would also. It had more of a bend at the end of the kit and it was all one piece but it would not have worked with my volant air box. The guy at pepboys let me take the kit out side and kinda mock it up on top of my volant. Dude went back inside and left me out there with the kit!! lol He was cool. :)
Forgot to mention that this would not work with my Throttle body spacer. I had to take it off because the 4" tube would not have cleared the radiator. I think If I really wanted to I could have cut a little off the pipe and the boot and made it work but I just did not feel like messing with that. It feels way better now than it ever did with my TBS and Volant Powercore.
Looks good copy cat....lol..jk....have you had any issues? with idle? mine has to be tuned...it wont idle right and without uprev i cant log and check anything....i know it pulls way harder then before....lol mine fits with the tb spacer...hehe....do some logs and let us know what its doing

I have you and relentless to thank for wanting the 4" intake. lol. Copy cat indeed.

No idle issues I think it is because of the sleeve that comes with it. It keeps the airflow at about a 3" dia at the MAF so it does not go all screwy. Yeah wish I could have kept the TBS but for now its off. I do not have the cable or cipher from Uprev to see whats going on. I was dyno tuned at uprev in Austin. But as stated earlier I will be removing the sleeve once I can go get tuned. I have the 07 IM coming in soon and will get tuned shortly after getting the 07 IM installed.

Also we are 2 for 2 that agree it pulls way harderwith the 4" intake.. home made or store bought, 4" just pulls harder.

What did you have on your truck before the 4" intake?

i had just the k&n that was on when we bought the truck....but i have had just about all the intakes out there...on my previous 07 and this still pulls harder untuned:):)

Cool. I can't say I have had all or most intake but I had the fram air hog drop in. then the AEM ebay knock off and then the Power core. This one is by far better. No other way to describe other than it pulls hard. :teethmast Even with the box not fully covered from the engine bay. (yet)
Now the kits filter, is that a dry filter or oiled filter?

Go ahead and pat yourself on the back...I literally just texted a guy this morning ready to buy his AEM brute force for $150 then had to cancel when I saw this thread. Is that box required to help performance?

Looks like I'm headed to pep boys today :teethmast

Oiled. Does AEM make a dry flow to fit a 4" dia tube?
How is the noise? I've got a Volant and when you really mash the pedal it sort of sounds like a horn blowing. Any different with this set up?

No noise level changes.
For those who do not have a box already and or are planning on making your own heat shield I would look at the model # 9925.. Its for a Ford F-150 04-08 5.4L But it is 179.99. The intake on that one is shaped more like an AEM intake for our truck but I think it has a different angle on the final bend in it.

3 hrs. later...

Pretty straight forward install...little bit of drilling(that supplied 7/8 bit is a P.O.S.) but ended up using my old heat shield. At initial startup it started idling really rough and scared the sh!t out of me. After letting it idle for about a minute with slight rev's the ECU started to fix the FAR...took it for a spin down the highway and went WOT and already I can feel it puling better by far. It does sound like a vacuum when at WOT, pretty cool.

Here's my clone AEM intake (for sale $75)
