I've got a question about shifting out of 4 Lo. My truck is an 07. To get it to shift out of 4 Lo, I have to put it in park, and when it finally goes out of 4 Lo, it beeps and a red light flashes that says ATP.

What does ATP mean?

And how to you get out of 4 Lo? Shouldn't you just be able to shift back to 4 Hi or 2WD from neutral on the tranny, like every other truck I've driven?

Thanks for the help!

I don't know what the atp light is, but you should be able to shift from 4lo to 4 hi in gear as long as you are stopped. You don't have to put it in neutral.

The owners manual is your friend................
On page 5-25 of my Manual it says..........in the 4LO position. stop the vehicle. move the automatic transmission shift selector lever to the N position with the brake pedal depressed, and shift the 4WD shift switch to 2WD.
I have found that if you do not follow the above procedure correctly it will not shift properly out of 4LO.

I have never shifted from 4LO to 4HI before but what helomech said is probably correct.

I was wrong, I just went out and tried it and in gear the 4lo light just continues to flash. Once I put it in neutral then it went right into 4 lo. Same thing going back to 4 hi.

Flip your sun visor directions are on there.

In any case, you must always stop the vehicle and put it in neutral before shifting in or out of 4 Lo.

yeah... otherwise your transfer case will not disengage. It needs to be in neutral to disengage, then just put it in 4hi or 2wd and then in gear and be on your way. Reverse is not necessary.

Thanks for the help! I think the thing I wasn't doing right was hitting the brake. I'll check the manual and make sure I'm doing all the steps right.

any ideas on the light that says ATP?

Thanks again for the replies.

ATP = automatic transmission park

Per the manual, if the ATP light is on, this indicates the automatic transmission park position will not function and the transfer case is in neutral.

So transmission can disengage and your titan can roll down the hill if you are not careful.

That is exactly right. This is one of the steps that a lot of Titan owners do not take when switching into or out of 4LO. It is very important to depress the brake pedal.
