FUN. Time to buy a geo metro.
why bother cutting out the pork or ending some of the very very wasteful government programs already in place when we can just hike the tax on an already highly priced commodity. Sounds like a great plan, after all we need to make sure the senators and representatives get their annual pay raise

Oh come on - those politicians are living poor. They need their money - million dollar houses and yachts are EXPENSIVE!!
Gas Taxes = real way to beat the terrorists.

Maybe we could cut down our military spending just a tad to fund research into energy independence? Blasphemy...I know. I crazy...crazy guy.

I...nevermind /rant
i dont know about you guys but if fuel gets much more expensive the TITAN is gonna have to go... i have had my truck for just over 2 years now and she has 44k miles on her, so you can see how much i drive...

oh and here is one for you oil/gas people! :futwice:
This is just politics talk. This is an election year and the last thing those bastards in DC will do is mess with fuel prices no matter what. Gas prices this coming summer will be close to $4.00 as it is. This is going to be on the mind of people when they go to the voting booth. They are looking at a tax cut to help the economy and charging more for gas would bring this economy down on its knees. There are some talks here in Idaho about raising the registration fee to cover road projects. Will see what happen.
Does it make sense to help pay for the upkeep (a necessary task) by how much damage you do to the roads and bridges? In other words, a usage tax to supplement the general public funding of our infrastructure. From what I have read, cars have little or no impact on bridges or roads. Large trucks - due to their weight - cause virtually all of the damage. Registration costs should reflect the GVW, not the cost or value of the transportation. Yes, it would be more costly to the truck driver; those costs should be forwarded on to the consumers who benefit from the trucking. A Titan pulling a large trailer should pay more than a GEO or a BMW. Gas consumption is not a good way to measure damage to roads and bridges. Gas taxes are inherently unfair and should be computed only on the basis of the baseline support for the infrastructure that benefits the public as a whole. Progressive income tax rates are very unfair also... but that is for another thread.

Amen

(friggin 10 character minimum on posts just makes me post something like this which adds nothing of value....)
Some other group also wants to add a 50 cent tax to help control "carbon emissions". That should about do it. No one will be driving, hence no carbon emissions. Great logic, raise the price so high that no one can afford to drive and that will control carbon emissions. What a joke.

On this I totally disagree, they will not be close to $4 as in high $3 something, they will be over $4!
That's going to make resale on a 13mpg truck pretty bad!
^ And why sales are dropping for all full-size pickup manufacturers...

And what gets me, not so much the actual price, I realize we still have one very low cost per gallon compared to other contries, but the high cost does hurt and I'm so damn tired of reading about multi-billion dollar profits being made by the oil companies.

Yep - but what can we do about it? Civil unrest seems to be the only way for change. Our government is so juiced in with these bastards that even the slightest "needed change" takes years and years to come into effect.

On the other hand - any huge change in the oil economy would have extreme influences on every aspect of our lives. Joe Sixpack is way too comfortable with just putting up with the lies and paying $8 a gallon for fuel.
It's crazy that that in the 21st century america's primary methods of energy production come from burning stuff....coal, oil, natural gas, refined oil products, etc.

So much for progress.
The guy on the morning news said if they pass that tax, he will never vote for anyone who supported it. It isn't much, but it's something. Remember who supports the tax and vote em' the hell out of office.

Nothing much that's for sure...

It's funny too, I get grief from some pf the people I know about driving that big guzzler, but I was thinking just last night, this is what my Titan has done so far this month, and it is only the 16th.
- brought home a 4x8 sheet of 3/4" plywood
- brought home 4 pieces of 1"x4"x10' poplar
- brought home 6 pieces of 1"x6"x13' and 2 pieces of 1/2"x6"x10' poplar
- brought home 2 boxes about 24"x48"x32" filled with guttergard material
- brought home a huge box containing my 12.5" planer from Grizzly
- brought home a 200+ pound box stapped to a pallet that was placed into my truck with a forklift, it contained my new Grizzly drill press

I need my Titan, and none of that above list has anything to do with my job, i's all personal stuff for the house. No silly little gas sipping car is going to do that.

I love it when these same people who give us crap about big trucks come to us later and ask us to help them move.
Pretty friggen typical. No one in government is willing to take a hard look at their expenses and target wasteful spending. It is a heck of a lot easier to pass a tax increase. Who elects these guys anyways?

Good logic here from our knucklehead representatives. Raise the tax, snuff the economy, put us into a hard recession, implement wage and price freezes, and then try to come knocking on my door asking for more money.

Gee wiz congress, control your spending and deal with waste. With three to four trillion dollar budget, there is no need to ask for more. We are more than capable to fund all of our programs as well as national defense without more tax increases. I am sure these guys scrutinize their wives spending habits more closely than they do for what they are essentially "hired" to do.

Build the damn bridge, fix the bad bridges, and move on. I would favor a Federal gas tax hike if we all agree to take away the state gas tax so that we make sure transportation money is spent on transportation. A good example of this is that our state is robbing the transportation fund that comes from gas tax collections to fund education. Thanks Doyle you pencil neck idiot.

I swear, there is a conspiracy to keep tapping onto the people until they have no more to give, then they will be dependant on government for food, clothing, medicine. Damn socialists!

<rant is now over>
