4X4 yes or no?

I plan on buying a LE CC 4X2 but, I started thinking about the 4X4. I wouldn't use it unless I'm in the Tenn. Mountains but then I still wouldn't use it unless I was in the Snow. It would be nice to have but, I'm not sure I would use it much. How often do all of you who have 4X4 use yours, other than having fun in the mud or sand. How much does the 4X4 limit the tow capacity compared to the 4X2? I'll be towing a travel trailer once in a while.

I find the 4x4 on my CC to be a bit extraneous. The bigger cab puts enough weight on the rear axle that if you go with a light touch on the go pedal in low-traction environments and DON'T plan on offroading, you probably will not miss the 4 wheel drive.

Just more to upkeep if you don’t use it. I use mine quit a bit during hunting season.

Ilive in Maine, It snowed all freeking day today, I use mine more than I like!!!!!! But its GREAT to have when you need it!!!! Depending how long you keep your truck, how many miles you put on it, and of course, your budget, I would not go without it!! I have driven 4wd trucks for years, and have not had any maintainance(sp) problems. :)

Don't skimp! (if you don't have to). Go for the 4WD! Having it (and this is getting tiring to keep repeating...lol) and not using it is better than the other way around. If you have it, you WILL use it. It takes NO more upkeep other than changing a few qts of gear fluid every 30k miles! Go for it!

Our tahoe has 4X2, we regret not getting a 4X4. If you plan on towing a boat, it is a must. We cant use any salt water Ramps due to alge. We dont offroad or anything, but it would be nice just to have. Never know when you will need it.

if you're not regularly going to tow over 6,000#s (80% of the tow rating, not equipped with Big Tow Package) then just get the 4x4, which will not limit the tow rating.

The lower final drive ratio of the Off-Road Pkg or the Big Tow Pkg consumes more gas (and puts out more power), which you may not need.

yes to 4x4 for these reasons:

* re-sale value: 4x4 portion of the money you'd likely never lose. no matter how old your Titan gets, if it runs and passes smog inspection, it'll be worth $4k to $6. aslo, it's just easier to re-sale a 4x4 then a 4x2. upkeeps nothing different then having more places to lube.

* safety: on the rain or snow or ice or boat ramp...4x4 will not stop faster, but will help prevent spin-out, esp. when pulling out a boat from a wet ramp. and you may even rescue another vehicle, as i've done several times. you only need one misshap to leave an "impression" for the rest of your life...a 4x4 is good "insurance" (like my .45!)

* adventure: ever wanted to travel the "path less traveled" (and get back home). if you have it then you know you can and you may even see an opportunity that you may have not tuned into if you didn't have it all.

* fashion: hey it's cool. come on, it's nice that Titan's a hard working performer, but knowing you have it is cool. 4x4 truck always looks cooler (to us 4wheelers that look for that) than a 4x2.

conclusion: the re-sale value and safety's real. the fun and cool factors are icing on the cake.

we use our 4x4 enough to really enjoy it and remember it. our roomy Titan replaces a compact Jeep Wrangler. (and we also have a AWD SUV, an Element)

I guess I come from the old world of thinking, if your buying a truck, buy a vehicle that takes you everywhere and gets you out of anything. If you you don't need that, there's plenty of cars and minivans that offer only 2WD. No sense in compromising the fuel economy, pocket book, and handling if your not going to take full advantage of a truck's/SUV's benefits by limiting it to 2WD or AWD. 4WD is the only way to go in a 'truck'. Wannabe, car based SUVs need not apply; Highlander, Pilot, Murano, Escape, etc.) :)

Have a good one.

Thanks for the info guys. I like the idea of having a better resale but, I plan on keeping this truck for a few years. I tried to look for the number on towing capacity with the 4X4. How much does it cut it from the 4X2 if they both have Big Tow packages? I'll be towing about 7500lb travel trailer.

I could not have said it better myself.

Scenario: A Dodge or Ford is stuck in the mud.

With 2WD you will probably have to call for help as there will not be much you can do.

With 4WD you first take a picture, then pull them out while taking pictures, respectfully tease them and then post the pictures on Titantalk. For me the extra few grand is worth it right there!

Thanks guys. I guess I'll have to wait and see. I like the idea of pulling out a hemi out of the mud.

I like the 4x4 Titan. It's nice to know it's there when you need it.

I use 4 wheel low and high ranges twice daily at minimum...live in the mountains.....would never have a truck without 4 wheel drive......period......a few qts. of front differential oil and the axle boots way down the road is your only expense/maintenance difference..go for it...you will always be able to sell the truck with the 4 x 4 package.no problem.

9400#

then you'll want the Big Tow 4x4 that has 9400# rating. then change your diff fluid every 3000 miles (15,000 if not towing), after "breaking in" the differential (read the manual), from towing

Yeah, whatever... I have a CC 4x4 OR. I drove through Provo Canyon here in Utah last night in a winter storm that had already dropped a foot of snow on the road. Had it in 4-Hi, tow mode on, and manual shifted the entire way. Rock solid. There were at least 15 cars that had slid off the roadway - including a highway patrol.

By the time I got to my neighborhood, there was less than 2 inches on the ground so I turned off 4wd. Bad idea. Even with a feather light touch on the throttle, I was all over the place.

4x4 is SO worth it.
