I did an aftermarket install of my hitch and trailer connector. The Hopkins connector I used has a quick connector spring lock built on so you just snap it in to a metal bracket. I cut out the factory plastic that was over the factory hole in the metal for the trailer connector to the same outline as the hole in metal this meant that the hopkins spring only catches plastic and not the metal. Appearance of the connector over the plastic looks good as the edge of the connector covers the cut out. It appears as there are 4 template circles around the 4 wire part under the top lid on the trailer connector check pic added. It also came with 4 screws and nuts not mentioned in instructions. I tried a web question to Hopkins but didn't get an answer.
Now to my question to those that have the factory install.
Did factory install screws you can see under the lids? If so can you post a picture.
Does the factory connector appear to be different than the Hopkins and have something different on the back that securely holds the plug from pulling out of the bumper. Some kind of custom connector.
I just want to be sure I don't end up with the connector popping out going down the highway and end up dragging wires.
I added a picture that shows the hole shape in the metal where I installed, this was before cutting plastic. It appears to be nothing in the way to some drilling and screws.
