8qts of oil???

1876 Views 19 Replies 15 Participants Last post by  TITAN DOHC V8
I have changed my oil yesterday, and until yesterday, i was under impression that the Titan takes between 6.5 and 7 qts of oil. Yesterday I have changed my oil for the 1st time since I bought it and it took full 8qts... is that normal? When I checked level @ cold engine the dipstick was showing in the middle of 2 holes, once engine wormed up it shows towards full. My question is: isn't 8 qts too much, I don’t want to overfill and blow gaskets,,,

Please advice...
Thanks.

Mine always take 7qt. which leave me a little over the halfway mark when the engine is fully warm. I would just keep an eye on the gauge and recheck the dip stick here and there.
I had always put 7 and a 1/4 in mine. You should be pretty far over full with 8 in. My diesel takes 10 1/2. That hits the pocket book every oil change.

I'm putting in 6 7/8 quarts, and that puts me 1/8" below the max dot, 8 quarts for an 06 is way way too much oil. I see you're in the Chicago area, I'm doing timing advances/idle air volume learn for $25 if you ever get interested in wanting that mod.
I changed my oil this afternoon and 7 qts. put it at the full mark.

7 qts. puts mine a bit under the full mark....No problems here...
I put 6 qts in mine and it is right in the middle when cold. I change my own oil and I let it fully drain before I put in the new stuff. Is this normal.

Sounds a bit shy to me...I let mine sit and drain until it stops dripping also...This is on level ground...
With that much oil, i don`t think a quart will make or break the engine...
Mine takes 8 with the remote filter I installed.

Is that the Mobil 1 filter ???
Fram's hi-performance HP1. Standard 1 qt size. Same as almost all Ford V8s. Pretty much universal throughout remote filter mount mnfr's.
I had an 06 that took 7 qts.
My 07 took 8 qts. I checked it several times to make sure it was right
mine takes a bit more then 7, but im not sure i get 2 five quart juggs of mobil1 and fill up about 6 quarts start her up let it run for a bit and then top it off to the full mark.

i saw someone changing the oil on a ford truck (dunno what f seriesl exacaly) but it took 18 quarts of oil, it was a turbo diesel that came into my toyota dealer:eek2:
Just drained mine myself for the first time and it took all 7 to get her full.
7 quarts here too. No more, no less. Never used a drop :)

To answer your question, YES 8 qts is too much. The owners manual says 6 1/2 qts. A lot of people put in the extra 1/2 qt to put it to the full mark, I don't think that an extra 1/2 qt will do any harm. But an extra 1 1/2 quarts could.

The dip stick is just a reference point, it could be off by a wide margin. When in doubt, always go by the manual, I am sure that the engineers that designed the engine and set the specs and capacities knew what they were doing.
I just switched my '07 XE KC 4x4 to Mobil1 5w-30 this weekend and I only put in 6 1/2 qts per the manual. When checking hot, it's just below the full mark on the stick. The dealer did my last change and they surely put in 7qts any maybe just a little more because that's what was measured for the oil I will recycle.

Like a DA I never checked the original factory fill to see where it fell on the dip stick. I'd be curious to know where a factory fill reads, anyone ??

Here's a chart for all fluid capacity level.
8qt mean you were bone dry from an engine overhaul.:D

I havent had my truck long enough to change the oil yet, but I find this to be kind of odd. On my maxima the book is right on, and everyone on that forum agrees. With the Titan im reading anything ranging from 6 to 8 quarts. Is it because people are using larger filters? but even that would only add a 1/4 to 1/2 quart at most...

lmao, headlight fluid, did you add that in there, looks like different font and there is a extra line dividing the headlight fluid section from the other. and finally the capacity matches the windshield washer tank capacity.

you've been BUSTED lol
