Advice? Nissan has had truck 2 months!

My current dilemma....

My 2004 Nissan Titan's engine suddenly began sputtering while driving and sounded like it wanted to die out when I put on the throttle. It continued to worsen throughout the day, dying on me many times. Finally, it would barely even start. After sitting for a while it might start, but it ran awful and sounded like it was only running on half the engine. No previous signs of engine issues, it just happened suddenly one day. I barely got it to our Nissan Service dealer...that was in July.

Two months later and they have not called once, home phone or cell phone. I have stopped in a couple times and called a few times. The mechanics are blaming the problem on the k&n air intake filter that I have on it. First they said it was dirt in the filter causing two of the catalytic converters to blow up, then a couple weeks later said it was a loose wire underneath the filter causing all four catalytic converters to blow. Unfortunately I had to go out of town for work, leaving only my wife there to deal with the situation. I return in 2 weeks and will be demanding answers, but what is the best route to take?

I'm furious with the run around, lack of customer service, and keeping my truck for over 2 months without calling me. I believe they should pay for my monthly truck payments and auto insurance. Who should I call first? What do you think?

Thanks for any advice!

Call the dealer and put the heat on them.
Yep it sounds like the cats are bad. Some here had the same problem with their 04's cat going out. A K&N filter will not cause your cats to go out.
First off, call Nissan USA. Then go give them a rash of sh*t. Nissan knows of their pre-cat issues, on ALL their vehicles! They have already replaced the one on my sentra at 9000 miles. The problem lies in their cam timing issues. On a lot of their engines, they run without an EGR valve. They just set up the cam timing to leave the exhaust valves open for the first part on the intake stroke. Thus sucking catalyst material into the combustion chamber and destroying the engine.

A few members here have had this happen to them, and got new engines out of it.
Hmm, I am confused. You said that the dealer blamed your K&N air filter for causing two of your "catalytic convertors" to blow? Then you said it was all four? I am not a certified Nissan technician, but I do know that there is only "ONE" catalytic convertor on a stock exhaust system...if you get aftermarket headers, then you may have two....but four? Are you sure you know what they are telling you?...better yet, are they sure they know what they are telling you?.... A catalytic convertor should not have any effect on your engine...aside from maybe the O2 sensor going bad...but that is usually in front of the cat....something sounds fishy to me....unless "I" misread what you are saying.:werd:
Speehless....2 months...DEMAND your outstanding loan buyout (if any) for a new truck..HOLY ****

2004 owner here....not one prob that hasn't been rectified within a week under Warranty
yea dude, someone's taking you for a ride. don't set it aside any longer. get a second opinion from a trusted mechanic NOT from Nissan, see what they say, and tear those motherfers a new one as soon as possible. tell em you've been patient long enough and demand your fixed titan or a new one (engine)
punch a salesman in the face if you can too. that'll show em you mean business.
2 cats on a Titan. One after both exhaust manifolds. 2 resonators also, one at each manifold.

Unless it's a 4X4.

YEP TWO. FOUR ON 4X4. I have heard some say that the rear two/resonators on 2x4's are dummies/hollow.

ANOTHER THING. The worst a K&N has ever caused is gumming up the sensor and causing it to revert to factory preset and SES light to come on and that's usually due to over oiling the filter!!!

Your service dept is grasping at best to keep the blame off of them either not knowing what to do or trying stuff that didn't work, etc...
LET 'EM HAVE IT WITH BOTH BARRELS!! There are several routes that they could take to rectify this situation. Don't let em BS you anymore.

What is the reason for having four cats on a 4X4 and two on a 4X2? What would be the difference to warrant two more cats?:eh:
I think that you should call an attorney that handles lemon law cases and explain the situation. See if you have some legal ground to stand on. I would be mad as hell if I was in your situation. My first instinct would be to kill the service manager. I can't stand dealership mechanics...I don't think any of them know the first thing about actual troubleshooting skills; if they didn't have some kind of flowchart, they'd be clueless as to where to start. Just my .$02...

4 cats on 4 wheel drives gives one more "cleaning effect" before exhast hits the earth while offroading. To me, it doesn't/wouldn't be much difference, but they're there for the environmentalist groups.
Thanks all for your advice! And yes, it is a 4x4. Your comments have helped me a lot! Helped solidify some of my own opinions. I'm all steamed and ready to kick some ***!

Thanks again!

That's a creative answer
Still not sold on the 4 cats. Maybe I can find some info somewhere. Seems like you go with bigger cats but not 2 of them. Hmmmmmmmmm.
just got my truck back for a new rear end. now i find out that the ticky sound when the engine is cold in my exhaust manifold...crap!
My 08 only has 2 cats and 2 res and its a 4x4
