Aftermarket Oil Cooler opinions?

What are your opinions on the oil coolers available for our truck? Are they worth it?

I've got a high mileage truck, and I feel like any preventative maintenance at this point is good maintenance.

Thanks in advance!

I have been using the kit for a couple of weeks now and have had no problems with it.
Cool. Anyone else is free to chime in also.
Subscribed... I want to know about this as well
I think you are fine as is, I have an 05 with 120kmiles I beat the crap out of it. The only reason that I'm using the oil cooler is because mine gave out. I believe the oem oil cooler works a little more efficient then the flexalite, but that is just my .02 cents.

Please post pics of the install?
Stillen states:
"An oil temperature reduction of 30 to 40 degrees Fahrenheit can be realized with the installation of our specially designed Oil Cooler Kits. These Oil Cooler Kits allow hot oil to be circulated and cooled outside of the motor through a high efficiency cooler.

Thousands of miles of engine life will be added by keeping a "cool" coating of oil on high-wear engine components such as piston rings, piston skirts, cam bearings, and rod bearings."

But I found on another forum:

"Our stock oil cooler is a step up from the standard run of the mill radiator. We have a special system that actually routes engine coolant to pull heat out of the oil. It allegedly lowers temperatures about 10 F than without it. In addition, it also helps warm the oil up in the winter because the engine coolant warms up faster than the oil.

That said, an extra cooler is not necessary unless you have boost or you tow 7,000+ pounds on a regular basis."

Obviously, the Flex-a-Lite version is a no brainer compared with Stillen's $500 offer. But if neither one is going to cool my oil significantly more than my stock one, there's no need unless failure occurs.

The factory tranny & oil coolers work real keen unless they break and mix oil/ATF/antifreeze.

The install was simple all you do is disconnect the two water lines going to the cooler and use a bypass and connect them together. Then you remove the oil filter drain the oil remove the mounting nut set it aside and the oil cooler then comes off. You then grab the new oil cooler gasket and the oil cooler and place the oil ring in the groove that the flexalite sandwich adapter has. You can now use the OEM mounting nut to mount the oil cooler. Then only thing left is running the hoses to the new oil cooler which I ran under the radiator support and use up to the cooler which I sandwich between the lower radiator and fan. I can post some pic later this week when I do my lower grille mod.

Let me get this right?
You removed the stock oil filter adapter/mount and installed the F-O-L adapter in it's place?

How do I know if the stock cooler has gone bad?

I have removed my factory oil cooler.. I didn't think the new universal oil cooler adapter would work.. so after I pulled the 2 hoses off.. everything easy ez.. but my problems are.. 1 I put the 2 hoses on. The added a 5 Gt jug.. my dipstick read no oil.. I started the T up.. then a mixture oil and water came out my radiator and filled up my overflow.. my 08T. Never. Ran hot.. but now I have milkshake every were.. on the ground in my radiator on my dipstick.. does this mean my heads are gone.. are do I need to flush everything.. somebody help..
I can't be of much help but to add a note to say, this is not a good sign nor a good way to begin a new year. You've got a mess on your hands and I don't know if there is good or better way to go forward.

Maybe someone with experience in this matter may have some suggestions. Good luck with it.
Does anyone have the drawing of our oil cooler setup/ and or routing of hoses and such. In Texas it does get a bit hot down here and I wouldn't mind looking into that as an addition along with the tranny cooler.

Maybe this is what you're talking about.

Kind of what I was looking for, as far as I knew we had a routing of coolant hoses right there at the base of the oil filter that ran the coolant through around the oil there, that was my perception of our cooling for oil. As I know it we do not have routing of the oil through the radiator for a cooling loop. I wanted to put an oil cooler on mine but need to get back under there and see if there is a place that I can do that with to route that oil through an external cooler, but not sure if that is possible so I was looking for the oil cooling routing more than the coolant loop, but looking at that doesn't really show a possible external method of doing that unless I can get the oil to route externally rather than through that unit at the base of the oil filter. I would like to lower that oil temp sometimes from running almost 210 out on the highway on hot days to around 180 or so. That's why I posted this, wasn't sure if someone was confusing the trans cooling through the radiator vs the engine oil cooling.

Problem might be something as simple as this:

OIL COOLER RUBBER O-RING - Titan (A60) 2007-2011 :: Nissan Parts, NISMO and Nissan Accessories - Courtesyparts.com

No pics so I am not sure exactly where it is, but it might be something to look into. Just found this so it give a diagram of the cooler itself. Here is another thread also, but this appears to have been an oil leak out of the engine, and after looking at that, it is very plausible to have that crack and contaminate both the oil and the coolant as I see it. Just doesn't seem to be to meaty of a unit and susceptible to cracks. : http://www.titantalk.com/forums/tit...tan-leak-posterior-oil-filter-connection.html

As I see it, I don't see how we could at this point run an external cooler at this point without sacrificing flow to the oil filter. Just doesn't seem plausible at this junction to be able to configure an oil cooler here. I have an adaptor on mine now, which allows me to tap for oil temp here, and then the filter screws onto that adaptor, but I see no way to provide an external cooling setup, unless, one would use the external bypass oil filtration systems, that might be possible to route it back through a cooler on the way back to the engine block after filtration from an external bypass system.

Hello- has anyone ever installed the flex-a-lite brand oil cooler. And if so, how did it work for you?
