'07 - SE Crew cab

This may just be a desert state issue, but in Phoenix we need every last degree that squirrel cage can produce. We can literally be seen in car lots comparing BTU's instead of BHP's. And after the last couple of summers enduring the complaints of the sweaty little bast'rds in the back seat, I was this close to trading in my Titan for an SUV thingy with the much coveted "real" rear AC.

As a last ditch effort I came on this board looking for similar Titan owners with red faced family members demanding more AC. I learned about "mode doors", "condenser fans", TSB's and STD's(?). Nothing seemed similar to my problem of just having system that worked properly, but poorly. I was just about to throw in the towel and blame it on the mild Japanese summers, when I read somewhere of cabin filters being installed on some Titans.

Huh? Looked in the owners manual and there I found directions on how to change them "if installed". Surely I couldn't have been that stupid. But 5 minutes and an 8mm socket later proved I was. There, in all their clogged glory sat two filters side by side. I tried new filters and was mildly impressed with the improvement. I tried no filters and Yeeehaaa! I got a friggin' Nor'- East'er in the cab of my truck. I took those new filters and threw them as far as I could. Grampa didn't need filters, Dad didn't need filters, other Titans don't come with filters, I dam' sure don't need them.

I would recommend any desert state Titan owner that regularly hauls back seat passengers to pull their cabin filters (you may have them) at least thru the summer months.

I'm sure some allergy rights activist or other do-gooder is going to come on here and say it's not a good idea, blah blah. But I'll take freezin' and sneezin' over sweatin' and frettin' any day.

I found out mine didn't have the filters installed. I put new Fram filters in and mine still performed the same. I figured I'd keep the new ones because I live in a VERY dusty environment.

If you leave the filters out it shouldn't damage the A/C so you should be ok. You just might be cleaning the interior more often because you're going to have a lot more dust coming in. But if it keeps the backseat beggars happy, then freeze their little toes off with all of the air conditioning glory your truck has to offer!

My truck never came with filters even though the damn sales man told me it did.. when I went to go change it.. bam nothing was there.. and my A/C pumps out like crazy... I love my A/c!

Yeah I live in FL. and have to actually turn it down some days because it just blows super cold. Mine by the way has no filters either as it's an SE XC.

I say the filters are on the truck for a reason and there is no way I would take mine off especially with all the fine dirt particles flying around in this deasert. My A/C blows ice cold air all summer long, but my truck has the factory rear vents so they help keep the kids cool.

My AC was horrible. Today, I pulled the filters out and they were nasty. I threw them away and ordered a new set. The AC is a lot colder w/o the filters. I am curious to how cool it will be with the new ones.

i live in NM, so im sure i should remove the filters.. any help on where are they located?

I need to have a look at my filter if I have one (08.5 Pro 4X).

The A/C doesn't need the filters but they do help in keeping the interior clean and the evap coils cleaner. MY CC had the originals until 60K miles and they were clogged up bad. I replaced them with filters for an Xterra (needed trimmed down but were $10 cheaper) and the A/C stays cold all through the truck. My KC with 114K miles and no filters will freeze you out.

I don't run the filters in mine either, the AC works adaquate I would say but its by far from freezing me out on a 95 degree day. I asked the dealer if I needed to have the system serviced, he said its a sealed system and the is no maintenace on them.

The downside is the amount of dirt/dust/pollen/etc, that was caught by the filters will end up clogging the evaporator. This can cause too cold evap. temperatures, which can then cause liquid slugging back to the compressor, which can then cause premature failure of the compressor. Not to mention clogging of the drain line resulting in a moldy smell in the truck, water leaking into the cabin, etc. I too want colder air in my truck, but after working on AC all day, the last thing i want to do when i get home is work on my trucks.

I wonder how hard the evaporator is to access and clean on these trucks? If it is easy to get to, might be worth it, but if you don't keep it clean on a regular basis, eventually you will have a problem, and might wish you left the filters in....

If true, then why did Nissan only put filters in the SE/LE and not in the XE?

Titan Crew Cab LE, SE have filters, the rest do not.

my truck didnt have them, I added them, changed them once, and didnt notice much of a difference, in air quality or temp/blowing force. I think ill leave them out next time.

ive never seen any a/c problems , evap cloggings, etc...caused from not using them. i changed many a heater core in several different vehicles and never has the box that houses all this stuff looked as nasty as a dirty filter picture. they are actually generally very clean with no filters.

why do they use them on some trucks and not others standard equipment? they tend to come on the more expensive models (for the titan, thats the Crew cab, and none of the XE's get them) so i would guess thats who they think will be more likely to spend money on replacements, or more inclined to come to the dealer for servicing. the dealer loves to tell you need to change them and they will gladly do it for around $40+ for parts alone. its fast and they make huge profit from it.

for years these filters were a dealer only item.

The funny part is my dealer keeps telling me I need to change the filters in my truck for a price of 85 dollars. I just have to laugh because either one their too dumb to know that not all Titans have the filters or their trying to pull one over on me. Second if I wanted to I could buy the filters and put them in myself for twenty or thirty bucks.

wow. $85! and i thought my dealer was bad.

my dealer put them in with a list of other items they said I should do, including a fuel injection system cleaning, for a around $350 total in extra charges. I coudlnt help but to laugh when i walked away. especially after they made me initial a paper saying i "declined maintenance". what a sales tactic that is. the garage is getting as bad as the guys up front.

BTW, my truck had around 25K miles on it at the time.

and they dont even look at the filters first, as i had already installed new ones myself, they just tried to sell them to me anyway

I got them in my KC XE. I checked them out about a year ago and it was a lil dirty, caught a lil bug. Washed them out and let them dry out and good to go again.
