Apologies in advance if this thread should live somewhere else - MODs of course can move it as needed.

To preface: I'm driving a running but quickly aging 2004 Titan. It's seen some better days, having been in some mid-minor accidents that produced some decent body damage, etc. A lot of fixing on the fly, shadetree work, etc. Also, you will have to be VERY forgiving with me. I am in no way a mechanic, and learn most anything I know from studying online videos and talking to mechanics that do work on it after the fact.

Sooo...I am just discovering, after what's been a good amount of time driving it post-accidents, that the front driver side "splash guard" - not sure what it's really called - under the fender on the inside, separating the wheel from the rest of the truck...you get the idea....anyhow, yeah, that's gone. Likely came off in the accident and I just never noticed. This problem is making itself known now out of nowhere due to some heavy rains we've had. Water from road spray is getting into the air filter box from that outside exposed port since that guard isn't there to stop it from doing so. I figured this out when the truck started lurching and losing power going uphill - this led me to look at the MAF sensor, which wasn't bad, but had some water on it from what was coming in through the air filter. Long story short: water is collecting in the air filter box, getting in from the port to the exterior, due to missing wheel well splash guards.

I don't have the $ on hand to straight up buy a whole new guard right now, and the local boneyard doesn't have one. Any creative suggestions for something basic and easy to do that a non-mechanic minded dummy like me could put on there to prevent the splash up from getting in?

Feel free to make fun of me. :(

Small plastic trash can you can cut up like Gilv said or even mock up a small box with plywood and bolt it on? You don't want to completely cover it because it'll limit air flow.
