Been looking at air horns for the truck. Seems some now do not require a onboard air tank. The run on a direct drive unit (looks to be about the size of a beer can). Anyone have any kind of air hornage?
Price?
Sound?
Ease of installation?
Can you still keep the stock horns functional?
I want to mount them up front and in the engine bay / front grill area so they are out of sight.
I have one. It's for a motorcycle, but can be used on any vehicle. 130 dB instead of the 79 dB of the stockers.
I mounted it under the hood latch bracket.
The bracket was an easy fab.
I have both the stock horns and this horn run from a toggle. I can switch to either horn. I had a few issues with figuring out the wiring required but now I think I'm good to go and should get it buttoned up this weekend.
Oh, and your questions:
Price = $35.00 plus shipping.
Sound = LOUD - 130 dB compared to 79 dB
Ease of installation = medium difficulty, I'd say. Not for the novice with no mechanical skills.
Stock horns functional = yes, but wiring it is complicated.
Blackbeauty, thanks your the man. Pics are great. Now I have something to go on. I will probably have a qualified shop do the work for me. I'm no good at wiring.
*You had to take the grill off? Was that hard? Would a shop be able to do it without messing it up?

I have an airhorn and love it. Mine sounds more like a fire truck horn but it still gets everyone attention. It is mounted under the drivers side and the tank hangs down about 2-3 inches below a cross beam. I would have to high center the truck to hit it and the subframe for my lift would hit first anyway. I did not install it but the person who did said it wasn't to difficult. I still have my factory horn which I barely use anymore. I paid around $350 for this set up from gabbert airhorns it is the emergency airhorn kit. Here is a link for the kit and a sound clip.
Demonw3, thanks for the pics and info, this will help alot when I go to the place where I will have it done.
Can't wait to have this done. I have wanted to do this since I got a Frontier in 1999. I actually added 2 additional stock horns to my 2nd Frontier, 2002 4x4 and it was somewhat better. But I want to have a big boy horn now with my 04 Titan. I been putting it off, till now. Sooooo many people need to wake up and get off the damn cell phone, this will help me - help them.
Thanks again.

The cell phone is my biggest enemy! I drive with my lights on all the time and people still do not see me but they do hear me when I blast them with the horn.
I scared my mother inlaw with it a couple days ago. My son like to play with the switch and she was behind the truck. She normally does not cuss but she let a few words fly.:jester:
