Air leaking from air vents?

1213 Views 12 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Machado7
I am unable to cut air off 100% from my air vents. Turned A/C off, recirculation on, fan off, ect- still have a mild flow of air thru vents when moving. I drive past a paper mill every day- bad odors get thru no matter what. New in cabin air filters dont solve issue.
All my prior trucks did not let outside air thru vents when all is off and recirc is engaged.

Nissan manager says this is normal for the Titans. Is he correct?

When I turn all of my stuff off air stops.
I was curious about this just the other day and when I put the system to recirculate it sure appeared to shut off the air coming in from outside. They way I could tell was I had the air directed to the floor, the fan was off and the outside temp was in the 40’s. I could feel cool air passing across my right shin. As soon as I hit the recirc button the cold air stopped. Sounds like you might have a problem.
*bump*
I actually have the same issue for a similar reason, I drive by a Lubrisol plant every day.
TitanLou,
It seems your system is CLOSED when all is off. Others (like myself) seem to have a "leak" or outside air. Im having my final meeting w/ the dealer about some unfinished/ unsuccessful warranty work, including this issue. The nissan rep and the service manager both stated "some air entering the cabin at hwy speed is normal.
Can you confirm 100% that your system is CLOSED when requested. If so, I am going to battle- but I want to be sure before I load the silos.
Thanks.
Mine gets air when off and moving. Hit the recirculate and no air.
Machado in case you didn't get the PM here goes. No mater what I have selected (hot/cold, max AC, defrost, heat, ect...) if I have my blower off I get no airflow at all. Zero airflow with blower off. I wish you luck fightning this battle with the dealer. The Dodge I had before I got the Titan flowed air all the time no mater what. It kind of got annoying at times, so I hope all works out for you.
I have enough evidence now to insist he take a Titan off the lot and show me that the air "cant be stopped" no matter the settings. Then I will have him.
Good luck. Charleston is a nice town. I've always wanted to be stationed there, but it has just never worked out. Thinking about moving to that area when I retire in a couple of years.
OK- WWIII at the service dept. The dealership has been sold, so the new service tech is unhelpful (I am resisting using more accurate language $^(*%%#). He says the inability to close off outside odors/the air completely is engineered into the truck. He says the Nissan factory engineer told him so. The new general manager, a reasonable man, says that he has never driven a Titan 04 (or any year predating the climate control system) that could 100% stop odors/ air from blowing in thru the vents.
HOWEVER- I insisted the service manager get atruck off the lot and lets test drive it;s vents. Guess what- NO AIR FLOW, or at least less than mine.

So- my comparison test today and several of you on this forum say my truck is "leaking air into the cabin". The service manager claims this is normal and will not be repaired or the like.

I need to know for sure which is correct. If my truck is leaking, Ill fix it myself if any of you can point me towards the solution.:crying:
my 06 has that leak you are talking about. ive also noticed that if i move the climate control to cold(blue markings on the knob) i get cool air out but if move it to the heater side(red markings) i get warm air out of the vents. wtf?

I suspect that some Titans are tighter than others. I suspect that the air cut off from the outside world into the system (hot or cold) is more leaky in some than others. If someone knows where that "cutoff the outside air flap" is, I might be able to look and learn more.

I think this issue is relatively unsolved because the in cabin filters block odors pretty well, so it is less noticeable of a problem.

Then the "engineer" (who allegedly told my service manager that the trucks with the climate control dont leak any air) doesnt know what he is talking about.

ONE FACT IS SURE: TT Forum users often know the Titans better that the service departments. 100% fact. No disputing that.
