I've been told that installing an aftermarket alarm/remote start on my new Titan is going to cost substantially more than normal? Is this true and if so, why?

I cant really see why? I will look it up in the morning . But i would not think anything had changed since the 07

sorry directechs.com only goes up to 06. however, i did a 07 for remote start the other day and the only extra parts (and possibly labor) was an immobilizer bypass which is the part that makes the truck think theres a programmed chipped key in the ignition cylinder. some shops depending on brand of alarm use programmible immobilizer bypass and some use the kind that you need a secondary key in the immobilizer bypass at all times(hidden under dash). this part is for remote start only, if you are just doing basic security/keyless there shouldn't be any "extra" labor.

They use Crimestopper alarms. I'll ask them to be more specific but they gave me the impression it was going to be a hassle/expensive to get remote start.

crime stopper has the module for doorlocks and remote start all in one . pdizzle swears by this piece. but they are just scared of your 08 for some reason . go somewhere else.

I don't believe there has been any change to the security on the 08. Crimestopper makes pretty good alarms and are farely easy to install. The Crimestopper bypass kit is the best on the market for most Nissan's and Honda's. Bypass kits are universal and will work with any alarm. If I were to sell you and install the CS-2016 remote start/alarm with bypass kit you would be looking at about 375-$400 out the door.
