so crap! where to start :serious: so almost died last Friday along with the wife. as many of you may know i just replaced my hub bearings i think back in February? and here's what happens when you buy crap from Ebay! so i was taking my wife to work Friday morning driving through some windy back roads in Ohio cruising around 45-50mph. came to a straight away when all of a sudden my steering wheel started to shimy, vibrate...than shake when all of a sudden everything goes in slow motion as the driver's front end drops to the road and i can clearly see it since it happened in slow motion but my wheel fly's up and literally smacks my front door up the window and over my BT mirrors! the truck started to pivot and i'm sliding towards oncoming traffic! i see my wheel bouncing along opposite traffic where it clearly misses the car by a few feet! i'm yanking on the steering wheel to get back to my side of the road when all of a sudden i lose my brakes and the brake pedal hits the floor! fortunately i'm able to get the truck to turn slightly to the right but i have no brakes so i'm trying not to tip the truck over into the ditch. the truck finally starts to slow down and the wife is totally freaking the ef out! i get out thinking it was my spacers cause the issue but to my surprise after looking at it i realized it was the wheel bearings that literally broke from the spline. had the truck towed to a local body shop but the tow guy had a pain trying to get the front end up onto the bed as the broken caliper bracket was dug into the road. the State Trooper couldn't believe how a bearing could break like that? anyhow, i'm safe, the wife is safe and the truck is repairable but waiting for the insurance adjuster to come look at the truck! i can only think of probably the spacers put a lot of stress on the hub or just cheap hub bearings. either way i told the body shop guy to put in OEM bearing from Nissan and he agreed. i'll keep you guys posted!

you can clearly see where it snapped at the spline and the brake caliper bracket broken in half! i have no clue where the caliper is as it's somewhere in some cornfields.

here's the rotor still attached to the wheel and you can see the other half of the wheel bearing still attached! the wheel is bent and i'm not sure how it did that and it's missing the inner valve stem so no air in the tires. i'm surprised i was able to find the tire as i spend a good hour looking for it in the soy bean field!

so pretty much the front driver's fender is smashed upward....the door is pretty smashed too! State Trooper was talking to me and the wife and said if this happened on the freeway doing 70mph i don't think you guys would have made it. i'm sure the truck would have flipped to it's side and toppled over and over and over! :eek_surprise: anyhow just some advice and you guys probably already know but don't buy cheap Ebay parts!

Man, that little episode would definitely get one's blood pumping. Sorry for the bad luck, but the important thing is that you and yours are safe and sound, and that nobody else was hurt. Do you remember the brand name of those bearings you got off of Ebay?

Didn't have my front wheel fall off, but one of my back ones did. Luckily I still had brakes and had just gotten off the interstate where I was doing 80. It was pretty surreal watching my tire roll down the middle of the street past my sliding truck.

Glad you're ok, get that thing fixed up and cruising again!

It's not just eBay. I'm finding that no-name parts from local auto parts stores are bad news. If I can't find a solid brand name version of a part then I get it from the dealer. This is something that I've noticed over the past four years. I have two vehicles 2004 and older so they're starting to need replacement parts. My time is valuable (to me, at least!) so I really don't want to have to do a repair project more than once. I don't care if you have a lifetime warranty on a part. if I have to replace it even once before a reasonable time has passed then it's junk.

Dorman is one brand I avoid.

I'm glad you're OK and the Titan looks to be repairable. I do wonder how much additional stress the wheel spacer put on the hub.

Glad you are okay.

Been reading a lot of people been having wheel bearing, especially with running spacers. Haven't read where anyone has quite figured out who still makes good front bearings as it seems to be a complete crap shoot lately.

I had a friend that had a brake line burst and the pedal went to the floor. He said he rapidly began pumping the brakes which used the remaining fluid to offer some pressure and slow the truck down some. The e-brake should also still give you some relief in some situations but it sounds like yours demanded full attention on steering. Glad you guys are ok - holy crap. Can you share the manufacturer so we can all avoid it?

I had my RF tire fall off while I was going 80 on a slight bend, it was the most uneventful event. Just slid to a stop on the shoulder.
Glad you are ok !

Holy crap!!! Glad you all are OK. That had to have added a few years to your life.

A good reminder to never cheap-out on critical equipment!

Seems odd to crap on EBAY. You can get everything from bargain basement to OEM on EBAY. Call out the brands, but not EBAY - they just link us to the products. What brand were the bearings? That would be the best information - share the link of item on EBAY if you are not sure of the brand. Perhaps we can figure it out.

VERY GLAD YOU BOTH ARE OK THOUGH!

Thats unfortunate man. At least you can take away lessons learned here without much damage, and your family safe.

Holy **** man glad you got out of it OK with just some damage to the truck. You can replace trucks. I almost lost a wheel on my van back in the 90's in the same fashion, managed to get pulled into a rest stop before it came completely off. Ended up having to replace the whole spindle because it got so hot it melded/welded the inner race of the bearing right to the spindle.

wow! first off glad both of you are ok...

and wow ! I was only kidding when I joshed you about staying on that side of the road and parts flying off, way back when...
from the pics looks like rust, maybe this was fractured earlier, who really knows....

but word of caution, never break out the BFH on certain parts...

you`ll get her up and running in no time, it will be good as new or better... stay well...
