I've had this problem for a few months now. Whenever I first start my Titan in the morning or after it has sat for a few hours, a few seconds after startup, it starts making an annoying ticking noise at idle that doesn't stop until the truck heats up for 5 minutes or so. It makes the noise when at idle and also when I hit the gas and in drive. The harder I hit the gas, the louder and faster the noise is.

At first, I thought it was a U joint going bad but the sound is more of a tick rather than a chirp. Then I thought about loose heat shields because I had a new muffler and dual tailpipes installed, but the sound continued after I removed and bolted down everything that was loose. Maybe it's a shield closer to the engine, I don't know.

I have no idea what the noise could be and I'd like to ask the forum before I dropped $75 to have my local shop look at it

I was afraid of that. How much do you think that will run me? I hope it's not that but I'll have the shop look at it anyway. The thing that I didn't know about was why it stopped after the truck got hot

Cajun B pipes will give you a good deal on the best fix for the Titan manifold issue.
I've been using their kit over a year now and it's great. It's also a permanent fix, as opposed to the new oem style manifolds cracking again.

Unless you plan to sell the truck right after you fix it, it is ALWAYS cheaper to fix it once, and fix it right. LT headers, B-pipes, exhaust, UpRev. Done...

Cajun is the cheapest/best option to go down, but you're looking at bare minimum headers, b-pipes, UpRev, and install. OEM manifolds are $1000+ EACH so just consider that cost...

As to why it stops when your truck warms up, as the manifolds heat up the metal expands and seals the cracks. When it cools off the metal contracts and the cracks open back up. The ticking sound is the exhaust escaping through the cracks.

How much do you think the Cajuns will run me? About $1400? Or would I be able to just get a set of JBA shorties for $450? Or would I need new cats? What would you suggest? I'll look over my options and go from there. Thanks

You could always just get the LT headers and uprev first to save a bit of money.
Get Bpipes awhile after you've dropped all the cash.

I'm going through this now. I ordered the high flow cat bpipes, JBA LT headers (ceramic coated), and an uprev and its just under $1,400. I'm planning on using my stock exhaust from that point out for the time being.

There is a danger with driving with cracked manifolds that it can harm your engine. However I think several of us have driven on it for awhile.

The problem with this is you'll run with a CEL since the O2 bungs on OEM b pipes are before the secondary cats if I remember right.

I've been running with my CEL on since my header install. Doesn't bug me in the least, I'm catless.

My CEL stays on but I'm not sure why. I asked my dad (previous owner) and the dealership told him a while back that it had something to do with the O2 sensors and for $1000 a piece they'll hook him up with new ones. Needless to say, CEL is still on

You can get the CEL read at any auto parts store for free. If it's bad O2 sensors they're about $75-80 a piece I think. The O2 sensors may take 10 minutes to change, the AFR sensors (front 2) are a little trickier cause there's a lot of crap in the way.

I just mentioned the CEL as I'm OCD about certain things and lights being on my dash is one of them.

Ohhhhh yeah I feel ya on that one. After I replaced my factory radio, the airbag light came on. I did the reset several times but it just comes back after a few days or a week. But as of right now, it's been gone since last week :)

Post your code numbers and maybe one of us can help you save 800$ VS going to a dealer.
