I’m not one to preach because I have done my share of irresponsible things but I guess I learned at an early age the dangers of street racing and to keep my testosterone in check till I get on a race track. Have I been known to go too fast on public roads? Sure. Do I always obey speed limits? Honestly I rarely do and that doesn’t matter weather I’m going to the store, work, vacation, you name it, I can generally be found going at least 5mph over the speed limit. I make exceptions to that when I am in areas that pedestrians frequent, school zones, neighborhoods, parks and parking lots but mostly I speed.
I have also been known to race to the speed limit and a little more from a traffic light and race getting on to the expressway but if I want to be really irresponsible, I find a nice deserted stretch of country road or highway because if I misjudge a turn or exceed my vehicles capabilities or my driving skills in some way, I am the only one there to pay the piper save the occasional cow that they were going to slaughter anyway.
You guys out there that race on the public roads around other people are a lethal nuisance and need to stop it. Rush hour traffic is no place to test your driving prowess or your vehicles cornering capabilities and the local school zone is no place to see how fast your car can get from 0 to 60. Please cease and desist before you kill someone’s friend or loved one. If you want to commit vehicular suicide and push your rod to the ragged edge, go do it on a deserted stretch of country road somewhere. I have really had it with the guys who can regularly be seen tailgating, swerving from lane to lane and driving like they were in a hurry to get to their own funeral because they saw it in a movie. This is real life guys, think before you floor it and kill somebody.
The reason I bring this up is because my friends life was claimed on SR 520 in Orange County Florida last Friday night by some idiot in a Mustang that crossed the median and flipped his car which landed on top of my friends NSX and killed him and the girl riding in the Mustang. The kid driving was OK of course and they released him the next day. He faces charges of vehicular homicide because witnesses said they saw him and a truck street racing down SR 520. RIP Robbin Hollar, sorry you had to die because some jerk in a Mustang couldn’t control his car or his actions. The really sad thing is that the drag strip is less than 5 miles from where this happened and WAS OPEN AT THE TIME. Save the dangerous stuff for the track guys and I’ll see you at the races.

This ties in to my post re: "what a way to start christmas" or whatever.

This is the stuff that sucks above all tragedies: innocent victims. I don't bat a tear when street racers kill themselves. But to take out someone who's driving home from work? Going to dinner? Picking up their kids? Pure evil if you ask me.

If there is a hell, these assholes are bound for it

Sorry for your loss...hopefully it'll be a lesson to others

Hopefully this will stop somebody somewhere from taking another innocent with them when they decide to test the limits of man and machine but I'm not holding my breath. I really don't wish these kids ill will but at the same time when they go down for the long dirt nap after hitting a tree in a residential area at 100mph, I don't shed a tear either. I think to myself that's the price you pay for irresponsibility and it's good thing the tree was there to protect the homes occupants". Shoot, I am not what you would call an angel when it comes to driving by any stretch but I save the dangerous stuff for the deserted roads. I even pay a toll to do 0 to 60 and 90 runs out on the highway so I can focus on the task at hand and not have to worry about running into somebody.
You are right though, I think hell is in this kids future as well as his present. He may learn not to pick up the soap for Bubba sometime soon as well.

I know what u guys mean my step dad just lost his life in oct at age 39. to a 20 year old boy in a toyota truck flying in and out of traffic. my stepdad was on his 100th annivesary ultra glide classic. when the boy tried to pass a dump truck in a no passing zone and hit him head on. the 1st trial was dec 11 and they had dropped it clear down to a 3rd degree misdeamor. and said the bot will see no jail time or fine because he does not have any money or a job to pay for a fine. So they r going to give him comutity service. the laywer told my mom that if she files a civil suit that has soon as they put a judgement on him he will walk him to the court house and file bankruptcy., since he does not own anything. the boy was fine by the way.

I am very sad to hear about your loss. My deepest condolences to you and his family.

I hope they hang the SOB by his balls. We let too many people get away with stupid actions in this country. A man a young woman are dead because of some idiot. They should throw the book at him.

Goes along with the stupid people posting on here looking for ways to disable the seatbelt alarms. There are reasons for those laws and lots of reasons to obey them. Disobeying them only shows how ignorant and stupid you are. The sooner kids learn that lesson, the better off we will all be.

First of all let me say it is tragic people have to die because of this. Second to rrumaner-(and let me add I am not trying to be smart by saying this) but I am one of those stupid people who wants to know how to disable seatbelt light. I am close to 40 years old, which I believe is old enough for me to make my own decision about wearing seatbelt-I dont need a law to tell me. That is one of the problems of this nation now-law for everything that we can/can not do. I rarely ever speed, hard enough to afford gas as it is with just normal driving. But, it is my life I am putting in jeapordy by not wearing my seat belt, not anyone's elses. Also, that warning light being on or not is sure not enough of a nuisance to influence my decision to buckle it or not.........like I said earlier, not trying to be smart about it...just my thoughts

Very sad. I'm glad you took the time and effort to post this. We all need to be reminded, just to reinforce the point to all of us, to drive respectfully. Life is extremely precious. Families are so affected by these tragedies...

^Agreed. But, I'm no angel when it comes to driving. I typically speed like Papa D does. Most of my highway driving is done at late at night, where there isn't that many drivers on the road and even then I'm still picky as to when to gun it. When I really feel like doing something at fast speeds, again I do the same thing as Papa D. I go to a certain strecth of road where if I lose it, I end up in the middle of a field (there are farms out where I do this). Even my (some) friends have rules. They won't even take a passenger with them when they got out to the roads that we use.

Cows were in quite a bit of danger where I grew up and learned to drive fast without killing myself and once in a while a farmers mailbox would suffer for someones lack of judgment but that was about it. You would hear about the occasional driver smacking a tree or bridge abutment out in the country somewhere and that was expected. What you didn't see a lot of was racing on crowded roads and in neighborhoods. I suspect we had a bit more sense back then or maybe Johnny Law was a little more prevalent. Either way, I didn't see the innocents paying the price for Ricky Racers recklessness and I'm just fed up with it.

Great thread Papa_D, couldn't aggree with you more. My deepest condolences to you and your friends family. It's really fuked up when innocent people have to pay with their lives for the careless mistakes of others. Take it to a track, or atleast a deserted road with no one around, racing in rush hour traffic is just idiotic. It's just mindblowing how stupid some people are behind the wheel. I'll sometimes see the idiot who thinks it's cool to do 35mph in the local Walmart parking lot during peak time hours, and the high-school-age kids who think thier hot sh!t blasting thier Honda's through an elementary school road when people are trying to pick up thier kids from school. Think a few solid open hand slaps to the earlobe to go along with the ticket will teach um.
