i guess Ford can quit claiming to be 100% American, when it uses Sony Audio in all of it's vehicles. lol.

All Ford vehicles to get Sony audio

North America-wide deal part of automaker's bid to make noise with unique technologies.

Bryce G. Hoffman / The Detroit News

Ford Motor Co. is teaming up with Sony Corp. to put Sony-branded audio systems in all Ford and Mercury models sold in North America, starting next year.

The first vehicle to get a Sony-system will be the new Ford Flex, a full-size crossover the automaker plans to unveil next week at the New York auto show.

The move is part of a broader effort to put unique technologies in Ford vehicles as a way of making its products stand out in a crowded marketplace.

Other examples include a new capless fuel filler system and Sync -- an onboard wireless computer connectivity system developed by Ford and Microsoft Corp. that will debut later this year on the new 2008 Ford Focus.

"We call these 'signature technologies,' " said Ford spokesman Nick Twork. "All of these are things that differentiate our products."

Ford already offers THX-certified audio systems on all of its Lincoln vehicles. The company now uses unbranded sound systems from a variety of suppliers in Ford and Mercury cars and trucks.

Analyst Erich Merkle of IRN Inc. in Grand Rapids said the Sony deal will give Ford a leg up on the competition, but said the automaker still needs to design and produce exciting vehicles to draw customers into its showrooms in the first place.

"Ford is doing more co-branding than any other automaker. The real play here is with the younger market, and these could help seal the deal," he said. "But you still have to have a car that people are going to be drawn to from 50 yards away."

First vehicle to get it is the 'new' Focus. Have you seen that thing? Instead of selling the beautiful Focus the rest of the world gets:

we get the reincarnation of the old Escort :bang:
