Not sure what you mean by 'Touring Bike', but I think there's 67 inches between front of bed and the extender. My bike fit with a few inches to spare, no problems tying it down.

Be careful with the maximum load of the tailgate though: technically it's 200lbs. Another member posted that he noticed the posts that the tailgate cables attach to were bent after loading his bike. I haven't had that problem yet (my bike weighs about 450lbs, I'm 235lbs), and I walk my bike up the ramps, so combined weight approaches 700lbs.

Still, getting something like this would probably be a good idea.

I've hauled many a bike, four wheeler, and riding mower in trucks....and you just can't beat a utility trailer with a fold down ramp.

I've still got the same trailer I've pulled behind three different Nissan trucks. It's a 10 footer, and just long enough for my Yamaha Rhino.

I'm going to look at new Honda cruisers today....I may have to re-register as Metric Squid....or Rice Squid....or Squid w/ Rice......don't want to get rid of the Rhino....or put 20k in a street bike....I just don't ride that much anymore.

My bike alone weighs over 700 LBS, dry. The thought of us both on the ground from the height of the bed is deterrent enough not to try. (I'm a woos)
But a smart woos. :brownsmil

Diagonally about 84-86" on CC

I measured therCC before I bought.I ended up with the KC,but for different reasons. It is about 84-86" diagonally. It would have fit my smallish bikes-56" wheelbase 18-19" narrow tires-they are about 82" overall length.I think a touring bike will just miss.I measured diagonally, because I like to be able to shut the tailgate-just don't trust not fully" containing" the bike.I'm sure it is OK,but it just makes me nervous to drive behind a truck with an open tailgate, and a bike hanging out.Charlie

Naw....those BMW guys are hardcore....I think most of them don't even own a car...now if I were to go with something from Bavaria...this one would better suit me for a little ride up to the club..... :)

Get a trailer, you could bend your tailgate, plus it is easier to load and unload from a trailer.

$20,000 bike, hauling your bike around in your truck??? You guys must be talking about Harleys. I bought an 84 Honda Magna V-65, for $3000, when I retired in 2000. It had 5,000 miles on it when I bought it. Now it has about 17,000 miles on it and it's never seen the bed of my Titan. I bought the damn thing to ride, not haul around in the back of a truck. Oh, and one of my favorite entertainments is to go riding with the Harley crowd and just wait for someone to get an itch to really ride. Then my trusty 21 year old cruiser starts having fun!! If anyone with a $20,000 bike is in the Northern California area and would like to have some fun, just let me know. I've run out of local Harley riders who want to ride hard with me.

Stan, be nice to them Harley riders. Poor fella's have bought in to the hype and got themselves a REAL piece of American iron. You need to ignore that over/under thing. Oh, c'mon....you know what I'm talking about....

Overpriced
Underengineered
Overhyped
Underpowered

:)

I ride a Yamaha, Midnight Venture, touring bike to work just about every day. 30,000 miles a year. One of my favorite things is to let a Hardley tear up next to me when I'm speedy and sport some attitude. I'll take him up to his redline, hold him there for awhile to make it look legit, then upshift......

The Royal Star's (midnight and otherwise) sport the V-max motor. De-tuned to be sure, but still more than enough to spank a Harley.

Okay, I'm done funnin' with y'all now. :)

Regards,

John

If you're referring to the resale value of a Titan - yeah, it sucks.

I didn't buy my bike for resale -- I bought it to do this for Hardley guys enjoyment at red lights, right before they're looking at my tail light -

I hauled my HD in the bed of my Titan, the back wheel sat fully on the tailgate, but seemed to work great. My only complaint was that the bed extender wouldn't fit witht he bike in the back.

Alright guys, let's not go all jackass here. I have ridden Hondas and Harleys (now own a '03 Fat Boy). I don't have a problem riding with any kind of bike as long as the guy or gal on top of it doesn't have a big chip on their shoulder about some other brand. As far as resale goes, when you buy toys, you never know what the future holds, so you have to at least consider resale. I don't plan to sell my Harley, but it's nice to know that if I ever do want to, I'll be able to get my money back out of it.

Ah, a little bit of friendly rivalry is alright.

Here's the type of "biker" I can't stand... the guy who "ships" his bike to Sturgis from his home in Hilton Head, then flies in (first class), gets his bike from the shipper, then checks into the Hilton. For those types, I have little or no mercy. There's also a place that has "HARLEY PARKING" signs on one half of the lot -- "METRIC PARKING" on the other. Trouble is... a freaking V-Rod is 100% metric -- so that guy has got to be confused.

Like you, I have ridden them all -- for the most part Hondas -- and dinky-arsed Dynas.

You know as well as I do... it's not what one rides, its "who's riding" that matters.

Well, you can't burn rubber on that slow, shaking, leaking thing -- so there ya go! :D No surprise there...

All kidding aside - I know the resale value of my bike. I didn't buy it to sell it Vec. I bought it to do the above and have a blast doing so and not worry about breaking down every couple hundred miles.

Hope to see you out there someday my friend.

Hey - BTW Vec - I note you're from Morgantown. My wife's a WVU grad, and she was born/raised north of Fairmont (Mannington). I was on a ride last Spring (I think it was) that started in Farmington, where your Governor is from. You boys and girls up there are fun to ride with... no kidding. I had a blast. - Jim

The FLH that I bought new in 1979 cost $4995 with the 80 cube engine and mag wheels........guess they're a little bit more now?

I bought a 1000 cc Sportster in 85 that cost the same money. I remember it had such a small tank....I could only go about 90 miles on a fill up.

I'm too old to ride dirt bikes anymore....my last one was a Suzuki DRZ400S...got rid of it before buying the Titan. Now I have a Yamaha Rhino for the dirt, and the VTX for the road....but I won't be trying to smoke anyone.....the fastest bike I ever owned was an 82 Kawasaki GPZ1100...that thing scared me.... :eeeek:

HAHAHA, I didn't see any rejoinder from the Harley crowd John. But maybe they were busy loading their bikes in their trucks to take them somewhere. I love that V-Max motor. It's about the only cruiser that used to be able to spank my big Magna in a straight line. And I really don't dislike Harleys. I bought a new Harley in 95 and it left me stranded twice in the year I owned it, something no Honda has ever done. Naturally I sold it and went back to rice burners. Anything with two wheels makes a day brighter.
