Just out of curiousity. I have been using a smaller belt on and off for about two years now. Gaterback 4060850, its one rib smaller and sometimes squeek, but it works. Cant find anything else closer, anybody else have a different belt?? Oh and yes Dyno results was a few ponies and no placebo effect. It works fer @ 30 bones.:)

Bypassing a idler pulley(what the a/c compressor is when not runing the a/c...) is not going to make your truck faster, AND I'm crying bull-s on the dyno difference...:eyebrow:

Well, it works for me. Let me know when your in Diego and we can go at it. Once or twice with the AC belt and once or twice w/o ac belt lol. Ill make shure the fuel is at the same level too between races. This has been argued many many o times before, with the result of the person acutally asking someone else and slowly easing in to giving in.

Not going for it....it's a idler pully when the a/c compressor is shut off, you really think there's some big gain in by-passing a idler pulley?

I've spent a fair amount of time watching guys chase voodoo house power....funny stuff!

Like I said, sooner or later they give in. Never said it was a BIG GAIN!!! But enough for 30 bones to put a smile on my face. Underdrive pulleys do the similar trick with more weight to by-pass... its still a serpentine pulling weight weather its idellin or whatever.

Sorry partner, your wrong there...

Underdrive pullies change the diameter of pulley sizes. They usually make a smaller harmonic balencer pulley and then over drive the Alt. and a slightly larger idler to compensate for the now slower moving belt to keep you charge up. the reason under drive pullies add power is because it cuts the amount of weight the motor is turning on the drive system. Thus making the motor spins more effeient and producing a small amoutn of power.

By-passing your A/C is shinanigans.....Your A/C pump has a clutch style pulley. SO when your driving along without your A/C on, the pulley spins freely without any resistence at all cause the clutch is disengaged. the pulley is just free wheeling. Now when you hit your A/C button in the cab the pump engauges and then there is drag on the front drive system. But this power loss is so minimal its not even worth the time. Your truck is so heavy, these few ponies your extracting is not helping your cause. The reason you see a power gain is because the drive system is shorter without the added amount of belt needed to wrap the A/C pulley.

Also, your hurting yourself more than anything by running a belt with the proper amount of ribs. this is going to cause un even wear on you bearings on the shafts on your front drive system. Your have more pressure on the rear of the shaft and none on the front. Its similar to having your truck out of alignment and its riding on the inside of the tires harder than the outside. Eventually your acc. are going to start craping out and your going to be wondering why its happening so early. I would guess the Alt. will go first, its the most sensitive. Then the power steering pump, and the very high possibility of jumping the belt off the tensioner is there too. :read:

I spent years at the drag strip trying to do anything possible to get that 1-2 extra HP out of cars and such and doing everything in my power to get that car into a certain time zone with minimal modifications. I went as far as completely gutting a car of everything that had weight and only gained .18 on my timeslip. then the car was completely worthless for anything but drag racing. On these trucks, those tricks just do not apply, there is way too much technology and moving electronic parts to do it. Its a pick up truck made to tow and haul race cars to the track, then the car made to race will eat up anything is lines up against.

Just how are you measuring that smile?
Did you drop a whole nickle in the 1/4?....Not from that belt trick...These trucks aren't repeatable to the nickle, so what do you measure?

Don't you find it funny that in his 1st post he mentions the very thing that causes that smile? The placebo effect! And judging by his phrase "30 bones", he's young. And those with kids know they don't listen at times...they have to find things out on their own..lol.

Works for me, do what you want. Placebo heaven here. Its sooo funny how they finally come outta the wood works now. I spinned the AC compresser w/o the belt on today too with the motor on. For a good 3-4 minutes too. Hope I didnt hurt my motor. Resistance with the motor off, resistance with the motor on, mass resistance with the ac on. Sooo what. Like I said, it moves metal and I feel the power. So go hang out with the world of 2 degree advances and your world of google. Like the EGR bypass, the tailgate drop, turning up the heat and everyones favorite ac bypass. Their is always gonna be a disclaimer.

Im talking about ALUMINUM undrerdrive pulleys do the same nature....All your variables dont make any sense too me. You should try freeway racing, the race after 60. Thats where all your ways may come into play.

It was my intention to educate you, not just give you a hard time...You presented a theory, didn't have anything to quantify your results and you have had several people here (including myself) share what they've learned over many years, and you still don't seem to be interested in increasing your own knowledge base after all that...

I certainly don't know it all, but man if you new my background you might be smart enough to listen....maybe...

I have to say, the A/C bypass is a cheap excuse to make yourself feel better. I also agree a improper size belt will infact, over time screw things up for you. Those pulley systems need proper balance, as they are circluar in shape and need proper rotation and balance in order to prevent uneven wear. Missing one rib, yes it will take awhile..missing two..a lil sooner. Three, even sooner, four is pretty bad and so on.

It's one thing to have a supercharger, headers, exhaust, CAI, gears, level/lower kit, high performance street tire..you're doing basic mods..real basic mods to accomplish what exactly? Buy some real power mods in order to get better times on the track. These small lil mods can be great for a small lil boost..but who would give up their A/C for .5 hp???

Sooo, you gotta vodoo ball and going to tell me whats going to go out first?? HB??? Alternator?? Waterpump?? Man, its been two years. I gotta hooptie 2.8 s10 thats gotta voodoo serpentine with no ac, been 5 years. Everything still works. 2jzgte motor too with no ac, again. Voodoo serpentine.

You would be a lot easier to understand if you wrote in English.
