Anyone ditch their under-seat boxes?

My 2020 crew cab came with the under-rear-seat storage boxes + fold out floor platform. Seems like I could store more under there without all that business (no need for lockable storage, no need for flat fold out surface).

I'm looking for some ideas or solutions for what box or bin to replace it with? I see there are some ridiculously priced purpose built bins, but I'm thinking something cheaper or simpler. Like a cheap toolbox that just happens to fit perfectly?

If you ditched it, what did you replace it with? No, not interested in hearing about your subs or amps 😆

Is $215 ridiculously priced?

I thought DU-HA was the brand I have in my Chevy but it sure looks different than these pics.

I like having the fold down when the Mrs and I traveled. Had easy access to our suitcases and other junk.
The bins though are lacking space and most of mine were already filled with the Nissan stuff (?survival/medical kits?). Not much room for anything else.

Edit: Looking at eBay, there are cheaper options. Weather tech or Rough Country. The one in my Chevy looks like Weather tech and with the seat in normal position fits nicely.

Personally I think $215 is overpriced; I think the Nissan accessory wasn't too far off that originally. I've been told the carpet is cut to accommodate, I wonder how they get retrofitted...

Anyway I've only had the truck two weeks now so I should probably wait it out a bit and see just how useful the fold-flat is. I did use it once to pile some expensive cut-to-length wire bundles... Kept them from sliding all over the place/off the seats.

I like you think the OE storage is just lacking. Personally I prefer to keep all must haves in the cab (i.e. tire pump, jump pack, med kit etc, basic tools) vs in a bed toolbox because the bed is a much more volatile space for me. I've pulled stuff out of the back to make room before and then forgot to replace it before I needed it...

Thanks for your thoughts.

My 21’ has huge sections cut out. I consider it no carpet…

DEFINITELY an eyesore if not covered by some type of mat. There are several posts confirming this as well. I guess they fixed it some on newer models? 🤷🏼‍♂️

is your carpet complete under where the storage used to be?

No. There are about 8 squares that Nissan cut the carpet to bolt the storage box to the floor. Without these gaps in the carpet, the seat doesn’t fit completely flat. Know since when I have the box to a Titian peer that didn’t have the holes cut, sear was tight vs with holes.

I did simply add mats that were designed or the trucks with no box to cover the holes

i use my fold flat pretty regularly and my driver side under seat storage box is full of the cleats and some straps and small tools. i have all the junk wrapped in red cloth rags to keep them from rattling all the time because i hate hate rattles.

i think i only have a 50 or 100 foot roll of parachute cord, or maybe its thicker but still not a large diameter cord in the passenger side box. i know the box has cut outs for longer items to ride in there, that fit all the way across the cab but i never tried anything in the cut outs

I think those side boxes are so cool. Yes, no rust issues for us so those boxes are great.

And both people i know with first gens dont have that cool box on theirs

I had the 2008 8ft bed with the outside storage ended up mounting my air bag compressor inside. On my 2016 I ended up mounting it in the under seat storage (used rubber acoustic foam to kill the sound) and on the other side I put my stock wheel lugs (for my spare) and my gooseneck hitch. I love the fact you can fold it out flat especially when traveling with my dogs in their cages and if I have stuff I don’t want hot or cold in the truck bed! I also have used it to haul stuff I need to set flat like furniture so it doesn’t rub against the back of my front seat! You can’t do that with the old Nissan under seat storage bins!
