I am new to this site and I was just curious to see if anyone else is having the same experience. Once you reach the half tank mark the fuel consumption seems to increase. I do not have a heavy foot so I know that is not my problem..... I have read in a few threads that if you fill your tank before you get under the half way mark that you will increase your MPG's? Is this true on the Titan's? I am new to the Titan's so feel free to school me if you would like. Thanks for all your help and info. Take care

It's simply a quirk of the gauge and/or the tank itself. Nothing really changes re: consumption

It's because you're, in a sense, overfilling the tank. The gauge only goes so high, then all the other fuel added on top of that doesn't make the gauge read more full. So you will get more miles out of the first half, but you're not getting any better gas mileage. Every truck I've owned is like that, is this your first truck?

You might want to take it to the dealership and have them look at it. My next door neighbor had the same issue with his '07 and the dealership told him there was an issue with the sending unit and changed it out at no charge to him. Just food for thought.

I know when my tank gets at 1/4 it only takes 40 miles or so before I get the warning light. Seems like that last 1/4 tank is actually maybe an 1/8th tank.

I have owned a ton of trucks before just not a nissan and yes I understand the concept of overfilling the tank, here me out I went 275 miles on the first half of the tank so thats 137.5 average give or take a few miles for the 1st + 2nd quarter of the tank. Then on the 3rd quarter I averaged 53 miles and it continues to average around the same going into the 4th quarter. I understand how you can get more miles out of the 1st quarter but then the 2nd quarter would level back out due to fact that you the tank is not over full. My driving habits are a constant so you would think that the average on the last 3/4 should be close to the same.......Yeah it might due me justice to see what the stealership has to say about getting the fuel sender replaced. Yeah I will have to agree with anmut on his comment - going, going, gone! Thanks again for all the info guys!

It's pretty common on our trucks, and seems to be an anomoly of the gauge. It's hangs up on the high side for quite a while, then when it hits the half mark it really goes down quickly.

The sending units sometimes have their issues too, but it's different. When those begin to go, they won't send the needle up to full until the truck's been on for quite a while after filling.

full tank, i get about 340 miles til empty. i get ~100 miles to 3/4 full, then another ~100 to half a tank. but then, its all downhill from there, plus i think the low fuel light comes on sooner than what's actually in the tank, just to be safe...i guess.

I have an 06 KC and just last week I noticed my full needle hung @ half until I shut my truck off and then turned it back on. The first time it has every happened and honestly didn't think of it too much other than a glitch. I have 36.5k on it. Should this be something to worry about? I have ran it for a while when the light comes on(6 gals left) and haven't(knockin on some wood) ran out. but it does drop faster after the half. here is something too. It also seems that I never received the same gas milage as the first tank of fuel! I noticed that the first time I filled the truck up after I bought it! i on avg get 15mpg on a good day. who knows! my .02!~

It may also be the tank shape itself. It may be shaped in a way that doesn't allow for an exact same amount as is empties due to needing to make it fit in a specific area under the truck. But i have to say that I've never noticed this issue. The fuel sending unit issue was for guages that never read full after filling.

I have only had this truck for a week and this is the first tank of gas so I will keep my eyes on this issue but I think everyone has the same conclusion....I think I will just keep filling the tank to full when I get to the half way point. It might not make a difference but it sure will make me feel better. Thanks again for all the comments guys :banasex0r

I have the new LWB with the 37 gallon tank. I haven't let it go much below 1/4 tank so it seems cheaper to fill! lol.
