GT Motorsports in Rancho Cucamonga, California is currently going through the R&D to produce a 6.0L N/A VK56 and a low compression VK56 with the purpose of doing a twin turbo on it. I also contacted this shop last Friday, as I plan on doing this swap into my G35 sedan, and spoke with the owner. He informed me the build should be done by March/April of this year. For anyone interested in 500 N/A horsepower, pay attention to this thread. I know I am.

Bookmarked! Thanks for the heads-up. I'm wondering what 500hp would do to our trannies! LOL

The transmission would be rendered useless in about 7-10000 miles, just like my first 2. I dont see where there is a difference from pushing 450-500 hp N/A or S/C. Thats where us supercharged guys are at this point, 450-475 hp at the crank. You would absolutely have to invest into an IPT bulletproof tranny build, because even with the valve body its only predicted to double the life of the clutches. In my situation the clutches would have lasted in theory 15,500 instead of 7703 miles.

Very true!~

SpecialtyZ has 300ZX auto tranies that hold up to well over 1,000hp. I'll look up to see what ratios they have...

EDIT: Bah... I forgot it was a 4 speed, D'oh!
1st gear ratio: 2.785
2nd gear ratio: 1.545
3rd gear ratio: 1.00
4th gear ratio: 0.694
Reverse ratio: 2.272

be careful spying on them...you don't wanna get shot over a VK60 :)

I don't see how 500hp n/a is not possible with a standard VK56 with slightly ported heads, a bit more compression, custom intake to move the rpm a bit higher than stock and a custom set of JWT cams.

I dont know man. Asking for roughly 170-180 hp with only adding pistons internally might be a bit of a stretch. I do believe i remember reading that Toomnymods plans to go internal in preperation for a turbo setup. He already has the tranny to support that kind of HP.

Well, I'm not mechanically inclined enough to debate how engines work, but if we're at 305hp on 5.6L, or 360 crank HP with cams and headers, it doesn't seem far fetched to reach 450-500hp with increased displacement, stand-alone ECU management, cams and headers. The guy who did the first VK56 to 350Z swap is running 375rwhp with a custom ECU tune, cams, headers and fuel system. Also, keep in mind this shop has developed their own fuel system, turbo system, and custom engine builds for the VQ35. I don't doubt them when they say they can build a 500hp VK56.

As far as the tranny build goes, as i said earlier if you can build the engine with one of those options, then beefing up the transmission shouldn't be left off your build list.

I know that stillen advertised that you could slap the s/c on and be done with it. This has been proven to not be the case. Yes the kit was designed around a stock drivetrain, but it will not handle the extra power. They found this out and started offering the valve body mod, which is just a patch over the wounds caused by the power adders. A full tranny build is the only way to go, but only if you have another 5-6 grand to throw around. There are two guys with fully built trannys running around on this site, Toomny and bodytech. We all know what difference this made to Toomny's truck, but i dont think bodytech will be at the dragstrip every other week putting the tranny through its paces.

Either way, Im waiting patiently to see what these guys can do with the vk56.

A while back I brought up this subject when someone asked about custom manifolds. I'm really glad that someone is moving forward with this, now some has mentioned what will it do to our bottom end. I believe that it can tear up our tranny, but doesn't stillen claim 400+ hp with their charger? What is the most hp from their meets?

From what i have seen, Stillen claims gains of 120+ hp, which equals roughly 400 whp. There are many who have dyno charts showing in the neighborhood of 425hp. In my case mine dynoed at 274 before and 391 after s/c and headers. My numbers are low, and i believe im not getting a full 6 lbs of boost, but i dont have the spare cash for a gauge, so ill have to settle for wondering why my #'s are low.

So yours at least works though right?
