Armada Roof Rack installed!!!

I added an Armada roof rack to my raised adjustable racks. This will provide additional support and protection to the cab roof in case I secure some extra long cargo. The attached thumbnails shows the end of an 8 foot long wood supported by the roof rack

The Parts Dept Mgr told me this will never fit (what's new?) the Titan and after some coercion, he reluctantly sold me the item on special order. I picked it up a few days later and after some very minor grinding and shaping to the (plastic) base, the fit is perfect (IMHO) and looks OEM especially with the standard "copper" color!

Pretty neat. I have a kayak and could use a setup like that. Can you give us some detail on what you had to do to get it to fit, etc.
I think there is an attachment for the overhead racks that is specifically for a kayak. It's in the accessory guide on the '04s (I think). :read:

I thought about trying that with a shell that has a roof rack on it. I was concerned about the difference in body movements of the bed compared to the cab. It didn't seem like a good idea to have them tied together at the top by some long object like a ladder or kayak. Given some of the movements I've seen from truck beds going over bumps, it just seems like the bed moves a whole lot more than the cab so whatever you had strapped up there would bear the force of those movements.

True! However, the main reason I installed it is to protect the roof from damage of any downward motion of long load/s extending over the cab roof (e.g. kayak or ladder) during travel either caused by wind or bed movement. As long as these item are properly secured unto the two (2) adjustable raised racks, there is no need to anchor them to the roof rack.

An additional informational note: the curvature of the roof rack is the same as the adjustable raised racks.

I will post additional photos, adjustment/install steps, part #'s and costs in the next few of days as I am on-call this coming 72 hrs.

Leave your questions/comments and I'll respond to them sooner than later. Thanks.

Why not both roofrack pieces? I wonder how those would look on the Titan.
The roof racks do look great on an SUV(make it look less naked so to speak).
I'm pleased with mine on the LX470.

I agree...a lot of folks don't like the roof racks on trucks, but I think they add a nice look. Can't wait to see some more pics, nice job :) Anybody put the Thule/yakima racks on the roof yet? (no I haven't searched...just happened to think of it). I don't even know if they would work or not?

I hate to bring up the RubberMaid Truck aka Avalanche, but it really shows how nice and utility efficient the roof rack can be on a truck:

Your Westin bull/light bar looks great. Are the lights wired to the OEM foglights or separate?

BTW, I'm a DOCOPHARM too!(Oklahoma). :brownsmil

Thanks, I was gonna wire in with the fogs (which I leave on all the time), but too many flashes from oncoming traffic. They are the driving light ones and are pretty blinding. I just installed the switch in the console btwn the heated seat buttons.

Cool  ...you a retail or hospital kinda guy? I can't deal with the public or someone would likely die lol. I work 3rd shift at the hospital.

gr - I really like the TITAN badge that you have right above the split window. Did you just debadge your truck and move it up there, or did you special order the new letters? Good job on the rack. I sorta wish that Nissan made the same set-up for the Titan as they do on the smaller truck.

I checked on Yakima -- not available for Titan rooftop (too bad, I have a bunch of Yakima components).

gr8titan: How about adding 2, and do you know the weight limit? Carrying a canoe on top of a crew cab seems like you would have enough span for stability (assuming fore and aft tiedowns, of course).

Man that's hilarious! I'm in retail :ugh: and yes the thought has crossed my mind. :D

Installation:The Armada roof has grooves that this roof rack base straddles. The Titan's roof is flat so that the plastic roof rack base needs to be grinded (grounded?) flat for total contact with the roof line.. I used a circlular grinder to remove the protruding parts of the base (very simple and easy procedure). I then used a HD 3M double sided tape to secure the now flat base unto the flat roof and also as a cushion so the base is not directly rubbing on the metal roof.

Now the debateable part: (to drill or not to drill) The screws that Nissan uses to secure the base is now too long since the the base protrusions were removed so I predrilled holes and used 1 inch SS screws (Lowes/HD) and clear windshield silicone sealant thru the screw holes. (only 2 are needed per side). My goal for this roofrack is to protect the roof from downward movement/s of long item/s secured to adjustable bed racks.

I'll be posting more photos this weekend and answer more question/s about the installation.

Not yet, but it is on my list of future mods. On my last truck, a Chevy Avalanche, I installed Yakima Tracks on the roof so I could use Yakima's round crossbars with their Control Towers. It was very important to me to have the ability to use Yakima's full line of rack accessories. It was also very nice to have an infinite, well at least within the length of the track, amount of fore/aft adjustment for the crossbars seeing as how the Control Towers slide in the Tracks. I wonder if the channels on top of the Titan's roof are wide enough to accept the Yakima Tracks within them. That'd be rather stealthy.

Would love to see your truck from a side and front view with the racks on...I'm trying to decide if I want to do this or not :upsidedow

Nice work, gr8titan. I'd like to see a useable and stylish (ie, stock-looking) roof rack for the Titan. Not real crazy about the bed-mounted "monkey-bars." It works for the Frontier, why not the Titan? I had a roof rack on my pre-Titan Dakota, a dealer installed Mopar accessory.

Gr8t,

Good Idea, Again. :D This actually solve my surfboard mounting problem. :smoke: I originally thought of drilling holes on my truck lid and add one of those yakima racks. But this will work really good, since my board is just 6'5". I really hate tucking my surfboard in the truck bed, due to nicks and dings.

How much are they, if you don't mind? I guess I'm going to need two of them.
