After reading through several of the posts concerning the mod. The post that has the most attention was made in 2005 and says the correct fitting that I need is a 1/8 MPT to hose adapter. However, I am only finding 1/8 NPT fittings. Is there a difference between MPT and NPT?

I'm working on a 08 Titan by the way..not sure if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance!

If you follow the post, it will give you part numbers for a Toyota hose barb which will screw in, and then for a Nissan part which will also do the same. The Nissan part was about $4 at my dealer. Had to wait a few days for them to order it in.

Just to throw it out there, but you can modify the original air valve and use it. All you need to do is pry the top off of it and clamp a hose on the end. That's what I did and still going strong years later.

To add...
Go ahead and use the factory fitting, but... Be sure to remove the factory fitting prior to doing this.

Mine was full of rusty powder and blocked solidly. Removing it carefully will accomplish two things... you wont knock the rust loose and into your differential, and you can un-plug the vent.

If you just pop the top off and add a hose, without assuring its not plugged first, you may not be solving the problem.

For $4, the longer hose nipple is good peace of mind for me. You'll spend more in clamps, hose, and a filter for the end, than the $4 for the correct nipple with a nice long hose barb on it.

It won't stop the leaking if the seals are already bad. Replace your seals, vent the axle, and it'll keep it (hopefully) from happening again.

I had to clean the thread out on mine, so I bought the tap that i'm pretty sure is the right size...10mm x 1.0

If it was me, and if your vent was plugged solidly... I'd do the vent mod and then see if it stops seeping before doing all that work and opening an otherwise factory sealed assembly. No hurt in trying it as long as the diff is full.
(... if your beast has a ton of miles on it... maybe you wanna change em anyway)

The active word to define is "seeping".. if the vent was plugged solid, and if it's just a tiny bit damp ..looking like a darkish stain in the dust closely around the axle end with no visible "oil"... try the mod first, clean the area well and see if that's corrected it.

If it's at all "wet" (clumps of wet dust stuck there, or visible liquid oil) or dripping... change seals and fluid without hesitation...thats not goin' away...

Either way, make sure its full of oil... then change it anyway after you've made your determination whether it still leaks.
(mine looked like coffee with a lot of cream in it...vent was plugged SOLID...but i had zero weeping with 66000 miles on it)

When I did mine, I bought the part that the NV2500 van uses (Nissan 38323-c601a $ 4.23 at Conicelli Nissan partznet)...it has a smaller diameter than the one the others use..and I used smaller hose... but it's a genuine Nissan part OEMed on a Nissan heavy van.
My list of parts is here http://www.titantalk.com/forums/7121858-post478.html

Thats good advice, troubleshooting 101, do the easiest thing first, if that doesn't solve your problem, then empty your wallet and give it the beans.

My truck is just dark shaded near the axle end. Ill try the mod anyway since either way it will need done. Its not leaking like the input shaft seal to the steering rack, I could nickname my truck puddles after that leak!

Just because the vent isn't leaking doesn't mean it's OK. There have been forum members reporting that their vent was stuck shut. Removing some component (drain/fill plug, differential cover, etc) caused air to be released.
