bad engine at 6k

I took my 07' Titan to the dealer on Monday for a ticking sound coming from the engine. The sound was similar to a tick of valvetrain noise and did not occurr when cold. I was told that the valves needed adjusted and it would be ready the next day. After a couple days, I was told that the dealer needed to call Nissan to discuss the problem. Today, I was told that the wrist pin on the connecting rod was bad and that it would be receiving a new short block. Needless to say I'm sort of pissed!!!

I know all will be replaced/repaired, but this is a brand new vehicle and it will never be the same. I have been a Ford truck owner for many years and made the switch to Nissan because I really like the way the truck drives. But I have to say that the quality of this perticular truck is trash. This truck has had 10 warranty repairs since June with the new engine the latest. Sadly, I think I need to dump this truck!!! Sorry for the vent!!!

sweet a new motor :D its better being new than used or rebuilt :D
It's a short block, not the same as a new motor.

You have to admit that Nissan has some great waiting rooms with coffee and snacks while you are being serviced. It is kind of like a home away from home. Get used to it.
maybe you can get it lemon lawed and get a new truck out of it.

and that would explain why the tick was sooooo loud.

Good luck
Thats rare that a moter has to be replaced. I dont think I have ever seen one on here before that needed to be replaced.
I would go with the Konigfritz suggestion.

Why should he get used to it. Do you get your mail at your Nissan waiting room? A bad motor doesn't= Nissan are garbabge and you will be spending all your time in a waiting room.

Might wanna check your state Lemon Laws but I think it has to be out of comission for 30 days or more or 3 attempts to fix the same problem. So if it takes them more than a month to get the new engine in, you might have a good case.

Titanicial had to have his engine replace because of knocking sound on his 07
P's...I'm here in central California. It's been at the shop since the 1st. I was told it would be done on the 9th and now the 15th. My major worry is that the truck will not be the same. New lower end, but all old parts installed around it. I just hope that the tech is extra anal and will have it looking like it did when it rolled off the factory line!

JMO. 23 repair visits in 3 years, 4 differentials, 5 new brakes, ac leaks, complete carpet replacements, oil pump replaced, steering gear replaced, radio replaced, and a few other goodies. 04 Titans had a lot more problems than you 06, 07 guys. We stuck it out and I still own mine now with 73k. Titans were not always as good as the truck you have now. Growing pains was a pain in the butt. And yes, I kinda got used to that waiting room. Had my own chair.
I just bought an 04 xe non bt with 80000 miles on it should I be worried? I have put 5000 miles on it in 2 months without any problems. I have a slight tick on drivers side but not sure what it is. Almost sounds like a lifter tick. Any ideas? I am going to go by a dealer to see what has been done to it since new and I got the 12000 mile 12 month warranty on it when purchased. I hope that if anything happens it will be before that is up. Thanks for any input.

Most 04 owners kept up with the changes and had the problems fixed by Nissan. You should have a nice pretty aluminum cover on the back of your differential which would tell you you have a new differential or the previous owner put a cover on the old diff. You should check and see if the diff has been replaced. Check to see if your brakes have been upgraded to the larger rotors and new type pads. That is the big ticket items and the rest are pretty minor. Try to get a readout from the service guy on your truck. It will tell you a lot.
Yah it has the aluminum diff cover on it already. I will check to see what has been done to it at the dealer. Thanks for the info.
Well, I got it back today from the dealer and it's going back Tuesday! Arrgh! Engine sounds/runs great, now other things are wrong.
1) Broken cover that hides the intake
2) A/C runs even when switched off
3) Broken windshield

Engine install looks good, except for the copious amounts of orange and grey silicone around the oil pan and chain covers. If those three things are all that turn up I think I'm doin' pretty good.

How on earth could a dealer return a vehicle to you with these three problems? It's not like they're hard to spot! Sounds like you might want to find a new dealer for service.
Yeah, I know. This dealer is 30 miles from home and the next closest is about 60. Seems like if they try to fix these three, there will be three more. But, I won't cut them any slack!

I have had my Titan for about a year racking up 13,000 miles so far. The truck has had zero issues. I have my fingers crossed this luck continues. I appreciate all the info I am getting here, things to look out for and what to do about them, etc. But sometimes, with all the bad stories I have nightmares. Does the Titan really have a worse track record than it's competition? Most of the research i did before buying was positive. Other than rear axle issues I thought Nissan had worked out most of the bugs.
