Bakflip mounting question

1026 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  bbshot
I searched through every thread I could find on the Bakflip and have read all of the available installation instructions, but still have one question.

Is the need to flip the Utili-Track rails due to the size of the C-clamp that comes with the Bakflip? If that is the case, can one simply use a wider c-clamp instead of flipping the rails - like the ones from softopper pictured here?

UPDATED in response to post #4:

1. You can use Stainless Steel Pop Rivets (1/8"x1/4") every 12", to hold the BakFlip in place. That will eliminate the unsightly Clamps. This does make a permanent attachment of the rails. But the Cover can still be removed by taking off the 2 bolts and 2 rods. Pics added.

2. I know one fellow who trimmed the bottom edge of the BakFlip Rail, to allow clearance of the Utili-Trac Rails. He did not need to flip them then.

I saw your post on using the pop-rivets. I also saw that someone just drilled some holes and used nuts and bolts. Two questions for you TitanBlue:
1) If it's not a hassle for you, can you snap a picture of where you used the pop-rivets? I've never done any riveting before. And 2) This makes the cover permanently attached, correct?

Thanks for the pic Daptech, but those rails are flipped.

Price seems to have gone up. I can't find a G2 for less than $636 on any of the recommended sites. Local guys are all charging $725 or more. King Cab version.
Thank you for adding the pics TitanBlue. That's exactly what I was looking for and answers a lot of questions I had.
I got mine from Cabelas for $599 shipped. If you have a Cabelas card you can also save another $100

Thanks. I checked them out. They charge an $18 surcharge + $16.95 for shipping for a total of $634.94. They told me they weren't sure if it was the G2 or the earlier model. I'm guessing it's the G2. They say they ship from the manufacturer and it will take 3-5 weeks to ship, then transit time.

Most of the other sites are $636 and free shipping. Delivery time seems to vary a lot. Some sites say 5-10 days, others say 3-10 weeks.
But thanks for the link.
