Bass Tube? Thoughts?

Hey guys..

So.. I've been out of the car stereo scene for a few years now.. and I am starting to plan for my system this spring.

I am going to be replacing all the speakers.. and of course the head unit.. probably with a touch screen.

Even though my Titan is my daily driver.. I didn't really want to spend THAT much for the low end. I like to turn up my system every once in a while like anyone else.. and sometimes.. just sometimes.. I want other people to hear the thump coming from my truck. I just don't want to spend that much money on 2 subs.. a speaker box.. and an amp (or possibly 2) to power the subs. I'd much rather invest that money in better speakers, or the head unit. I remember back years ago.. Bass Tubes were pretty popular, specifically the SAS Bazooka brand. Does anyone have any experience with them? Or better yet, have them in their truck? I was looking on Crutchfield's website, and they have a 10" tube, powered by a 250 watt class D amp. Some of the reviews say it can't be heard outside the car, but sound excellent inside the car. These reviewers only have one tube though, and I'd get 2. These tubes run for $330 each (Crutchfield has always been pricey, so probably cheaper elsewhere). For around $600.. I'd have 500 watts of bass.. and not have to worry about amps, space issues, or enclosures.

Guess my question is.. what's everyone's opinion on these tubes? It seems that in the long run, it would be a lot cheaper than the traditional sub route.

All opinions appreciated :)

Just to add.. like I thought.. Crutchfield IS expensive.. I just google'd the model number.. and these exact model tube's are going for $250 each on Amazon. $500 total for 500 watts of bass that goes down to 30hz doesn't sound all that bad.
You can probably find a box someone here is trying to sell and an amp (I have 2 I'm looking to sell cheap) for that money, or get a under seat package from tech12:

04-2010 Nissan Titan Under Front Seat Complete Package - Check Out Our Products!
well, yea.. I know I can get an under seat package.. but I was curious if there would be a huge difference in sound compared to 2 10" subs vs2 10" bass tubes.

I am a JL Audio guy.. always have been.. always will be (for my show cars). No disrespect towards tech12, because I've been to his site, and he has nice products at great prices, but the subs he uses for his packages aren't really high end enough for what I was looking for. And again, I'm trying to see if I can eliminate an extra amp in the mix. I realize tubes aren't high end either, but I am thinking 2 bass tubes might be an easier and cost effective approach to get the bass I am looking for. I guess I am hoping someone who has experience in them will know. Out of all the reviews I've read on Crutchfield and Amazon.com - 99% are positive and the people rave about them.

Today's tubes are much better than prior years. Although I don't have one in my T I do install them in other vehicles and I can say that the cabin space in our trucks is the right size for a single 10". If you want more then two would really rock it out.

I haven't even looked at audio upgrades for my truck yet, been too busy with all of the exterior things, but if I can find a good spot for a tube I would do one.

I'm thinking you're right - tubes now are better than prior years. Sadly, people don't realize that - and don't use them nearly as much.

I really think this will be the route I go. No need for extra amps, and no need for a box.
Another option that I haven't explored yet is 8" woofers in the rear doors. I'm going to take a look at the option in a few months.
Have you checked out Infinity Bass Link? Powered 10" made by Harmon Kardon. Put one in my CC, not expecting much, and was very pleasantly surprised.
Yes...I'm resurrecting this thread because I'm at the same crossroads. Seems the 8" is a common install for bazooka tubes under the rear seat. Now just trying to get an amplified (100W) without breaking the bank. Had a 10" in my Trailblazer prior to my T and it went with the JL door speaker pkg as part of the sale.
