bigger backspacing wheels with pro comp lift

pro comp recommends using 5in. backspacing but all the wheel i like are 5.5 or more has anyone used a larger backspacing? if so how much?

You could use a 5.5" b.s. wheel but you can't go any wider than 8" otherwise the tire will rub the spindle in front and the bump stop bracket in the rear.

Any additional width to the rim will go out not in.

5.5" backspacing is the distance from the innermost edge of the wheel to the mounting surface, (like if you laid it good side up on the driveway, and measured up to the mounting surface). So a 8.5" width rim will have the same spindle clearance as an 8" rim if they have the same backspacing, (and are the same design). The 8.5" rim will be a little more deep-dish.

By going too wide, or too small of a backspace, the tire can rub at the pinch weld, when near full steering lock.
You're right. I had offset on my mind when I wrote this.
the wheels i want are 20" with a 5.8 backspace will these work? procomp say 5in. backspace with 17" wheels
