I do not how it happen i never been muddin in it just used my 4x4 at the camp on the roads when it rains alot last time i went to the camp it was raining and when i went to put it in 4wd i heard a wierd noise but it ingauged so idk what it was. i brung it in to the shop for th e rear axle seals leaks and my mom said that it leaked a little oil on the carport in front of my truck but i was workin on my bike there the day before so did not pay any mind to it but when i brung it in i told them to look at the front and that is when the noticed that it was shot that it broke and it was not turning the axles anymore. has anyone else had this done to them? i am pissed i am out of my truck right now but the said i should get it back tomorrow they have to change the whole front diff and the rear axle seal.

Yeah, that happened to me. What I believe typically happens is a c-clip that holds the stub shaft inside the axle housing comes loose. Since our hubs are locked 100% of the time, the diff fluid slowly leaks out as the axles spin, eventually leading to diff failure. $5 part, $2000 axle assembly, replaced under powertrain warranty. Anyone else feel free to correct me as it happened to me over a year ago and I can't quite remember if that was what my SM said.
pretty much the same thing that i heard they are fixin it and i am gettin it back tomorrow
I am currently going through this myself. We had a snow storm 12-13 and I had a hell of a time getting out of my driveway. I was pissed but blamed it on ice under the snow. After driving to work I decided that something was wrong with my 4wd. Took it to the dealership and they said the front diff. "exploded" So now I'm driving a rental and should get my truck back in 3-4 days. It sucks.
Yup, been through it. A clip in the front cut loose and it started leaking. It never got to the failure point for me. It was replaced under the powertrain warranty.

Warranty going to cover it I hope.
I dont know how mine went out but one day it just stoped working and when I put in 4wd It would make bad grinding sounds. I had about 35k on the truck at the time was fixex for free after fighting with nissan. they said that the leveling kit caused it. but none the less they neded up fixing it. I was out 3 months in jackson hole wy stuck because of no 4wd.
I've been wanting to buy a 4x4 Titan for a couple of years, but I am holding off now because of all these problems that are manifesting with the Titan. Between the rear axle seals, rear diff's going out and the front stub shaft problems I think I would be afraid to ever engage it in four wheel drive. Yes, Nissan will take care of it under warranty, but I will have my new truck for a long while. So what happens when the warranty runs out? Rear ends are about $4,000.

So sad, Nissan is so close to having the best truck out there but their unwillingness to take care of these problems is a real shame. Now we are hearing talk that they may drop the Titan altogether. Sure won't help future Titan sales.

It would be interesting to know all of the production years of the 4x4's on this thread, saw a couple of '04's and an '05. I wonder if any '07's and '08's are letting go yet.
