Does anyone know exactly how the Blind Side Warning (BSW) system works ??? The reason I ask the question is that on a recent road trip, there were several instances that the BSW was not functioning (this while driving). The BSW would work after start-up but then after driving for an hour - no BSW (just the symbol blinking on the dash). Is the system electronic or satellite driven. Hoping that someone can fill me in on this system before I go to the dealership (for them to tell me everything is working fine).

More clarification - When the BSW system is working, when a car moves up beside me, a symbol lights up in my outside mirror (driver or passenger side) and if I put my turn signal on to turn in that direction, I get a warning beep. When the BSW system is not working, I don't get any of these things happening.

I read somewhere that this system works off radar is this correct ???

My limited understanding from reading on Nissan, it does work off a radar type system. With that said, I've never heard mine even go off, I just see the icon on my upper left control panel. I will say that from reading, it will only activate if you're using your turn signal. If you change lanes and don't signal, it won't work. Rarely do I use my signal to change lanes, (yeah, I'm that asshole) unless there is a car or traffic close but I've never heard mine activate.

Yes...this is how I understand it to work as well. The yellow indicators on the mirrors will light up and the dash will show the presence of a vehicle in your blind spot, but no audible warning unless you click on your turn signal. Also, it doesn't do anything at slow (gridlock) speeds.

https://youtu.be/3q7Bhg_b3BI My wife's car has no radars but it does have BSW and lane departure, this YouTube video explains how the rear camera does both
Good video - now I know how it works - But what I don't know is why mine stopped working while I was driving. When the system is working, I have a symbol on the dash - but when I experienced the system not working this symbol on the dash would just blink. When this happened, I had my exterior mirrors extended (tow mirrors) - I wonder if that has anything to do with the system shutting down. Currently the system is working fine - maybe just a bug in the system - who knows.

I have a question I'm replacing my rear bumper on my 2019 p4x but the new number doesn't allow the bsw to be mounted. The old bumper had the mounts for it but you can't have metal covering it so there was a plastic trim cover over the bumper. The only way to mount it would be to cut holes in the new bumper and cover the holes with fiberglass that is painted black. So my question I have is there any way to bypass the rear bws system but still use the front without having the warning light on the dash.

Isn’t their alert settings in the driver management?

Yes you can. I think this fella wants to keep the front, turn off the rear. That’s going to require programming of some sort.

Got the rear bws figured out had to cut the corner out on the new rear bumper and add them to the corners with plexiglass over them. Too bad Nissan can't do what Ford does and put the bws in the rear tail lights.
