The Ecoboost tuner really unlocks them. not straying away knowing the turbos are garbage the manifolds crack and the coolant adapters to back of head fail. oh and the the pen hole that vacuum pump breathes thru that gets clotted in the cam from crap oil. other than that they are good backup trucks...........
Manifolds were an issue as was the early turbos getting water in them but they figured it out. The cooling system is of course important especially on twin turbos so watch your temps towing or extreme driving. I have a 2.7 so not as many issues but they all have something.

I just got back from driving a different 2.7 Ecoboost and a 5.0. this Ecoboost didn't smoke on start up and felt like a twin turbo should feel, I think. It was quick to take off and passed well on the highway but still got the same gas mileage as my truck at 80.

The 5.0 sounded like a V8 and you could tell it was a V8 when you pulled out of the lot. It felt powerful like the titan and accelerated quickly and passed on the highway similarly to my titan. It still got the same gas mileage as my titan though.

Either way, both were very nice riding trucks. Very very nice riding, like a Cadillac. And quiet like my titan at speed. But the info centers weren't as nice as my truck and they didn't have all the cool stuff my truck has.

They didn't have that shimmy where the cup shakes in the cop holder on the highway though.

I don't know. If I had to get one, I would get the V8 so it would still have the higher tow rating like my titan does.

Well I’m glad this one was better. I would not buy a v8 Ford MY 2017-2021. Did you just reset the trip computer for economy calculations? Did it have that awful 1980s info center? My 20 has the good screen. The 2.7 should pass both the v8 Ford and Titan on the freeway as the power kicks in low but we can argue times later. 😅

As far as longevity I think Nissan screwed up the 5.6 using cheap block materials that will only last around 100k. I may be wrong here but most folks I know with ford ecoboost engines seem to blow or wear them out around 100k.. I have seen a few over the 100k mark and still running good but their work day amounts to getting groceries or leisurely hwy drives.. Ecoboosts that are worked will pop around 100k..
I would like to put my 2 cents in on the longevity of the 5.6 Titan motor...
I currently have 206K on my 2005 Titan LE Crew 4x2. Oil is changed every 6K, absolutely no issues with the motor. I don't know how much more you could ask out of a motor. I'm hoping that my 2017 PR will be as good, currently 104K on it.

Ford’s really aren't any worse as far as reliability and such compared to Nissan. The latest version of the 3.5eb motor prob the best..

What always turns me off is the high price…. Before I bought my 17’ I rented a 17’ f150 with 3.5 and 10speed..

Just didn't feel it was worth the over $10k price difference between it and the Titan I ended up getting…

Yes there are Fords u can get for less than the Titan when u truly match the equipment up Ford will always be more…

I’m sure this new Toyota 3.5 will be the same..plus it appears the Tundra will continue to guzzle gas…

Sorry guys just my observations… And I do like the generator option the F150 has….
I don’t think my motor will quite at 100k. I drive a 2.7 10 speed. It’s not designed to tow but can. Turbos have come a long way. Will a small displacement motor last as long as a NA v8? Well it depends on the owner(oil changes) and where and what it’s used for. I paid 40k for my truck and mechanically nothing but knock on wood. The 3.5 is popular but also has the most issues. Idkw but it’s a completely different engine than mine. I’ll keep you updated! 😁

i did reset the trip computer so i could see what it got on my quick trip up and down the highway. i didn't have a lot of time to drive around but i went up and down the highway for a few miles each way. at 70mph, the 2.7 did really good and was reading in the 20s for gas mileage so if it was still back in the day when highway speeds were low, i bet it could almost get 30mpg on the highway, but those days are long gone.

these trucks both had the same info screen in the middle of the cluster. the exact same set up my wife's old escapes had, her 2015 and 2018. you can toggle through the screens with the left hand buttons on the steering wheel. it was easy to use, since we have had a number of fords with that same system but these trucks were both xl with the stx packages so i think they were limited on what was shown in those screens.

i read a bunch about the 5.0 in the f150. they have plastic oil pans which sound like a lot of people have leaks on and you have to keep an eye on the oil and add oil between fill ups. i read the 10 speed has some issues too which is weird since its used on all three engines but seems to have more trouble behind the v8. i also read there are manifold cracking issues on both ecoboost motors, the same as the titans have.

i don't really see a reason to switch to an f150, unless someone just wants to get one. i understand though, i grew up having an f150 or two so i like them. i personally cannot justify swapping my perfectly fine truck for another truck unless something comes up on mine unexpectedly that makes it not worth keeping anymore.

another note. i did really like the seats in the f150. my son and i were talking about the difference in the seats after i came back. they are more of a sport seat in the f150 with bolsters to hold you in place. the titan seats are more truck like and flatter. nothing wrong with that, i have zero issues with the titan seats and have driven cross state a number of times and been very comfortable in my titan. i was just noting that since some people don't like the titan seats.

100K miles on a 5.6? I’m at 237K with a OEM water pump! Truck is a beast with Headers and a Uprev tune.. 2008…

Boy was I not impressed. For all the hype and talk from everyone about that engine, it was very underwhelming.

The truck was a 2019 crew cab, same options my titan has and newer. I wanted to compare as close as possible to my truck so I found one, but it's a 2.7.

All I felt was shifting transmission. Like non stop. It wasn't rough or bad but it shifted a lot. And on the highway at 80mph, it got the same gas mileage my 5.6 v8 did before I put bigger tires on, 17-18mpg.

It was a smooth ride and comfortable truck but when I tried to pass a car from 80, like I would have to do up in the hill country, it was like I was driving a four cylinder 80s cavalier. It shifted and reved up but there was no jump forward pulling me back in my seat.

In other words, I would have to be really sure it was clear for a good distance if I wanted to pass because it wasn't going to be a quick pass like my titan does.

Anyways. I will have to find a similar 3.5 Ecoboost to try now. And than a 5.0.

We shall see but so far, I don't know how people like that small turbo 6 in a full size truck. It's not impressive.

I will let everyone know how the other engines compare.
I’m going to test drive a Titan this weekend or next. It’s been a while so I will give you the Ford owners perspective! 😆👌

I have a friend who has that truck and it’s a nice truck but you accurately described the performance. It’s shifts all the time and I don’t think the mpg overall is not much better than our 5.6.With all the different speeds on that transmission I question the longevity and the jury’s still out on that turbo

The Borg Warner K03 turbochargers on the F-150 Ecoboost 3.5L have been around quite a while and are used in several automotive applications. They've been used on Fords and Lincolns since 2010 I believe. There are some issues with the 3.5, namely carbon buildup in the first gen direct injection only, and cam phasers in the second generation. But I've never heard of the turbos being a big problem so long as oil is changed regularly. Know several people with 200k plus miles on Ecoboost engines with no turbo or any other failures. My 2015 F-150 3.5 Ecoboost was fine for 98k miles.

With that said, I do like the sound and feel of my new Titan V8. It just feels more like a truck! And I like the 9sp transmission. It shits better than the 6sp in my last F-150 which was always trying to shift too soon to save fuel I guess.

I have no worries about the “DE” version. Its the “VD” version that has me worried…

Mine shits pretty good too 😂

I hope that you’re right about the 200K on the 2.7.My buddy has only had the truck for a year

Although my truck having some error(PCM) probably is making me a little more envious of a Titan right now. Dealer can’t see it till April which I’m like ok…so the codes can clear by then?! Took a picture but you know how that goes.

till april is crazy. what if your truck was actually broken? they want you to walk for over a month
