My truck was also....

After reading these posts, I was curious to see when mine was manufactured. I picked up mine on Februray 13 and the born on date said 02/04.

I guess you could say mine was fresh out-of-the-oven when I got it.
Exactly, My truck was born on 2/19 and I picked it up on 2/26... still toasty warm......LOL.

Build date 04/04, VIN# 540061, purchased 4/21/04
KC Red Brawn 4x2, SE Popular Pkg Captains, Splash Guards, Bedliner, Floor Mats.

No problems. I am still trying to figure out the problems people are having with the radio to determine if I've got it. There is a new radio station in town where I get real crappy reception. The others seem fine. I like the SSV because I like to drive with the windows down (my other car is a convertible) so it's nice to have the volume adjusted for me.

Open the drivers door and look for a sticker. At the top of the sticker it will show something like "Manufacture Date" and it will give MM/YY (04/04 was mine).

If you dont have a sticker, the dealer should be able to tell you the next time you take it for service.

Really? That's odd. I snapped a couple pictures. It only says Date at the top of the sticker.

I found a partial manifest on the floor of my truck containing a bunch of bar codes. It shows

Manifest Printed 03/22/04 14:34:43

Assigned : 03/15/04
Due Date: 03/25/04
Appr Shop Date 03/22/04

Door shows 03/04
Sticker shows 03/22/04

It would appear that it takes about 7 days to build the truck.

well just checked mine.

door sticker 02/04
window sticker says 20040224 at bottom

now i bought mine 3-28 and the dealer said it had only been on the lot 15 days. so, this leads me to believe that the 2/24 was a manufacture date b/c i doubt it would take 15 days to get to dealer. i dont know. just a thought. but definately a feb build.

this truck is the SH!T

4/04 build still has crummy FM.

We just took delivery on our SE, popular package, 4wd, towing and offroad. It's the plain-Jane 6 cd changer, non Rockford Fosgate system. Build is 4/04 (hot off the press!) .. FM reception is horrible, just like everyone says.

I thought this only affected the Rockford stuff. Perhaps the head unit is identical?

Regardless, one would think the factory would have installed a "good" radio if they had the fix.

I can't see this being a software issue, although I know software tuners exist. These mass-market stereos likely don't have ICP or JTAG, so I'd be pretty shocked if the dealer can just pop the radio out and connect a computer to it and "fix" it.

If Nissan is actually going to take care of us, I think they'll have to swap out radios, or send them off somewhere to have someone update the flash or replace a component or two.

If someone has removed the radio without causing any physical damage to the dash, I'd appreciate a pointer or two. When the fix comes available, I suspect my stereo will experience a well-timed simple-to-repair failure so it gets replaced with one that doesn't stink.

Thus far, with 200 miles on the truck.. no other issues. Brake pedal is firm, so I guess they solved the master cylinder issue, at least for some 4/04 builds, although it could take some time to develop..

All-in-all, a fantastic vehicle, and just some minor first-year issues in the grand scheme of things.

Hey Dude - you and I are fairly equal mine is 532XXX and says 03/04 We have the same truck but for color and step rails (oh and i threw the banks on), but everything else is the same.

Curious what is your gas mileage like? city and highway.

I have only filled up once so far. I got exactly 10.0 mpg all city driving. I am due to fill up my second tank in a couple of days. It looks like I am still in the 9.5-10.5 range. Hopefully, the gas mileage will go up as the truck gets broken in.

Download the Service Manual for $20 and take a look at pages IP-12 & AV-65

In a nutshell:

IP-12: Pull the center dash cover section rearward. It is just held by clips. Then disconnect the electrical connectors to the heat & A/C control knobs. This allows removal of the center dash cover.

AV-65: Remove four screws (two on each side) pull the audio unit out and disconnect the connectors.

I have had the center dash cover off. It is not that big of a deal. Just grab it at one upper corner and pull.
