I broke off the bleeder valve on the right rear caliper. Brakes are spongy and need bleeding. Any suggestions on how to remove the remains of the old bleeder? ( short of buying a new caliper)..

lots of pb blaster and an easy out. if you have a butane torch like they use in restaurant kitchens, you can put some heat into the center of the bleeder for about 30 seconds and then let it cool. do this several times before doing the blaster and easy out attempt. don't use a cheap easy out, it will only gore out the center of the bleeder.

First, if the OP broke off the brake bleeder, do you really think they'll be able to use an easy out and torch to remove the shattered stub? A better option is to take it to a local brake shop and pay someone to do the repair and do the system bleed. Just a more realistic solution.

I don't know anything about the OP. He asked a question and I told him what the best way is to do the deed. Who he gets to do it is up to him. Just a guess, but he may realize that pulling a caliper, taking it to an unknown tech with unknown skills only to be told that what he wants done is $65+ and no guarantee of success is less of an option than that of trying it himself, if he has the tools and skills..... and then having to buy a new caliper anyway. Not to mention the extra downtime of taking it somewhere...or, knowing that he doesn't have the tools and the skills, he may hit the keyboard and wait a day or two for a box from Rock Auto and be done with it. Besides, some of the best mechanics I know have broken bleeders....not a reflection on their skills, but more a reflection on how often the brakes are bled by previous owners.

Thanks for all the ideas but, I think I'll go for a rebuilt caliper from The Rock. Not that I don't think I can do it, more like (at 75 years old) I just don't need the agrivation.
Thanks for the advice anyway.

Smart move! I'm 68, so I get it. Just this week I spent close to $500 on Rock parts for my Mercedes and another $200 at the dealership. At some point rolling around on the driveway with wrenches becomes too much......aggravation(sore hands, sore shoulders, sore back, cuts, bruises, .....)!

Just got back from 3parts stores and no success finding the brake bleeders. Didn't bother to go to Nissan. Bought a reman caliper, fluid, brake hose and pads. After I got the bleeder out of the caliper the fun began :laugh::laugh:. Will change both rear sides tomorrow and report back. Wish me luck. Lol

If you bought replacement calipers why did you remove the broken bleeder?

No doubt I would buy new calipers. I probably would get them from the dealer. I know, it sucks to pay dealer prices but I've had some less than quality parts come from the auto parts stores. Some jobs you only want to have to do once. Alternatively, be sure you stick with big name brands like Bosch or something like that.
