I own a 2004 Titan purchaced in Dec. 2004. I had the "Judder" at 12,000 miles(I think) and the dealer resurfaced the rotors. Well I have it again. I took it in yesterday and the dealer told me that Nissan is not fixing the problem with new parts any longer. Should the resurface at 12,000 miles start the 3/36 fresh or am I screwed? I'm not sure what to do.

12/07 marked the end of your extended coverage. So I guess you are screwed! At least that is what Nissan did to me. But they would gladly put the new parts on for $576! But I have never heard of them no longer using the new parts. I went with aftermarket slotted rotors and pads and did it myself for around $300. Good luck. You could file a petition with 1-800-nissan to see if they will do it, but that was a big waste of my time too...

Hi,

I have been thinking of buying an Titan 04 XE with 50k miles on it. I love the truck, it is in mint condition, but I am afraid that I will always have to repalce the rotors and pads.
The dealer (not a Nissan dealer) said he would replace all 4 rotors and pads for me as part of our deal. Will this fix the "judder" problem for good? The truck currently does judder and at first I thought it was rust on the rotors from sitting in the dealership, but after reading this thread, that is doudtful. Either the previous owners did not fix the breaks correctly, or they did a whole new break job with the same results, a judder, which may be why the truck has lower miles.
I guess my question is, if the dealer gives me new rotors and pads, are my break concers over? AND did this "judder" happen to every single 04 and early 05 or just certain ones? My other option is a used Tundra, but I LOVE the Titan. Thanks so much. Please let me know ASAP if you can. Thanks.

I think these brake issues are hugely correlated to how the owner USES the brakes; i.e., some guys are much tougher on brakes than others. ADK, you'd be looking at the current spec brake pads (and rotors), so any initial issues with the brakes should be addressed by now, wouldn't it?

FWIW, my early-'06 Armada has 68k miles, mostly suburban family hauling but I tow a heavy (6000lb) trailer about 5-6 times a year. The dealer installed new pads and rotors on the FRONT at 61k miles. The rears? The shop said that the rear brakes were only half-worn, and I could expect it to last until 90k-100k miles, most likely. Nice surprise. And never had any shuddering issues.

Thanks alot. I think I am going to buy his truck, I like it so much. I hope the new rotors and pads do the trick. Does anyone else want to comment before I pull the trigger either tomrrow or Friday on this issue? Any warnings?

These comment boards sometimes scare you from making a decision and other times educate you. I was worried about the rear differential also, but not so much anymore. It is still covered for the next 10,000 under the powertrain warrenty.

Please feel free to add your two cents before I buy tomorrrow!

I do not buy this! We are talking brakes on a truck. These parts, if any, should be overbuilt to withstand tough use. I have had 3-4 brake jobs (i keep forgetting) and have yet to tow anything and rarely haul anything substantial. My truck is babied for the most part. I believe this issue relates more to a design flaw on Nissan's part of the 04 and 05 builds. Dennis I see you have an early 06 so chances are you have the newer brakes already.
ADK Stomp, I would just be sure you are getting the updated rotors or, even better, a nice aftermarket set and you should be fine. Since I installed a set of DBA rotors myself I have not had any issues (with the brakes anyway).

Good Luck

The new brakes will do the trick if they are properly designed. I have an '04 SE and I had the brake judder issue in '07. I so I replaced the stock rotors and pads with DBA 4000 Gold rotors (crossed drilled and slotted) and some EBC Greenstuff brake pads. But EBC, Stillen, DBA, PowerStop are all good rotors. key words are cross-drilled AND slotted ( for better cooling). you want both features.

I have driving 30k since the job with no problems. just make sure you brake in the new pads properly. search the forum for instructions.

'and no matter what, even with 28,000 miles, 2007 Nissan TitanKC, NISSAN of VALLEJO, Ca. won't even bother to look at it. The Service Writer (Dave) said, " It's not covered under warranty, being that brakes have a wear & tear part. These guys are unbelievable. They were even charging me $60.00 to adjust the Headlights on the Truck, and of course, it's also not covered under my warranty....
So Buyers beware !!!!!!!!!
So, now what do I do? Where do I take my issues with this Dealership?

You probably already bought the truck ADK Stomp, but I do have one question for you - does it have the stock wheels and tires? I bought my '05 Titan brand new with 20" wheels & tires. I have 79,000 miles on it and I have to redo my rotors & pads for the 5th time now. The first four were covered under warranty (for three years). Now I'm going to have to fix it for good out of my own pocket with aftermarket rotors & brakes.

I know other people with the same year Titan who have not had any problems since the initial recall. The only thing I can think of is the oversize wheels.... For the last 40,000 miles or so, I've driven my truck like a Grandma always slowing down way before hand to use the brakes as little as possible, so it's not my driving that's wearing these rotors out.

Does anyone have any documentation from Nissan regarding the brake warranty? I initially went in to have the issue fixed at 20k and it is now happening again at 35k. I spoke with the service department and although they told me initially that they had replaced the rotors and pads, I find that they actually lied. Someone else looked it up and stated that all they did was resurface the rotor.

Should I contact Nissan regarding this?

I just picked up my 2007 Nissan Titan from the dealership (SERVICE DEPT.) 4/09/2009 for the same problem. Vibration felt on steering wheel when brakes are applied. But, they didn't lie to me about the job that was done, which was they turned the rotor too.
I guess it's really hard to find an Auto Dealership or Service Dept. that you would really trust.

NISSAN of Petaluma, Ca. (Service Dept.), you guys are awesome. Of course, special mension to Matt B.

I don't have the documentation handy but I believe all brake work was covered for 3 years OR 36K miles...whichever comes first. It looks like your dealer did the same as mine and only did what was needed to to meet one of the milestones. In my case that was 3 years with only ~28K and the 3rd brake job! When they quoted me $600 to do the fronts that was the end for me. I did it myself with aftermarket parts which IMO are better than stock anyway, and for half the cost. When I did my own brakes I also discovered that I never did get the upgraded rotors...they just kept turning them until the 3 years was up and replaced pads. I called Nissan to complain and try to recoup some cost and they put you through a long drawn out process that goes nowhere. I want to like Nissan but as much as I like my Titan (I don't know why whit all the problems I've had) this has been one of the worst vehicle ownership experiences I have ever had.

The rotors & brakes were actually covered for three years regardless of mileage due to the recall - I think I had 70,000 miles on my truck the last time they fixed the brakes.

Regarding the resurfacing thing: I took my truck four times. Twice they only resurfaced the rotors and twice they replaced them.

Oh yeah, that is right. It was 3 years and no mileage limit. I remember thinking I should have driven the hell out of it before the 3 years were up.:bangit:

Ok just realized this was written 6 months ago but I had to agree with almost all of it... I had my first "job" done with 17k, new pads turn rotors... then 18k later it started again... called dealer, got appt (for 2 weeks out) by the time I got in there I had 37275 miles... " oh you are out of warranty on this recall".... to which I said... WHAT?? I called you and told you that it had 35+k miles on it and you all said " that's ok it is still under warranty and we know about it"... so because I waited the 2 weeks that YOU quoted me, now I am past the warranty??? (while he is talking blah blah blah, to me I am reading his R.O. where the tech has written "possible abuse" along with the price of $595 just to do the fronts.... so I stopped him and said can I take a look at this R.O.? and he handed it to me.. I was right, it clearly stated "possible abuse" to which I kindly said: I 'm sorry, I had a $7k Escort that I drove 300k miles, did every bit of work to it myself, NEVER changed rotors or even had them turned, never had it in a shop for any repair except a clutch, never had a flat tire that left me stranded and drove the HELL out of that car!! I have babied this truck more than ANY vehicle I have owned. and I have had more problems with this than all others put together!!! (seam on the roof not sealed.= new interior from mildew, brakes...twice, 2nd time I went aftermarket, they work great, half the price. Rear diff BROKE through the cover between the fins, they tried to tell me it was just a seal.. yea right, tires worn out at 37k miles $960 to replace... at 3k miles it started to bang in and out of gear... trans bolts not tight from factory!!! on and on...) And your technician has the balls to write customer abuse?? did he look at the truck? it is in mint condition, not a ding on it, it has only been in 4wd to keep the fluid flowing!!! I drove my truck away vowing never to return to THAT dealer in particular and swear if it has one more major problem like those, It wiil not be in my driveway again. ( I work for FORD that is how much I liked this truck) I have had the worst experiences and am notgoing through any more. Still I want to love this truck but if I can't trust it I don't NEED it!!! Good luck to us!!! sorry so long but I felt like venting once. :flame:

My 2005 ate the factory brakes like it was going out of style. After 5 sets that were covered under warranty, they said that my warranty was out. I just recently replaced them with cross drilled and slotted. I have 5k on them now and love them. The factories would be shot by now.
