Brake squeals in reverse

2070 Views 9 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  PatrickL
Every time I back up, the front left (I think) brake squeals like crazy! At one point, I even heard it going forward really slow, but have not heard it since. Has anyone else experienced this? I recently had a PC lift installed but don't see how this could be related. I'm taking it in to the shop that installed the lift for a 10-day inspection next week, so I will have them take a look but I've got a feeling they are going to say "it's got nothing to do with the lift install".

Sounds like you may have just had a little dirt or brake dust that caused it. I haven't had anything like that myself. I'm sure it's no biggie.
Mine does this as well. I have an 05 CC. I had the brake recall done at 500 miles. The brakes started to squeak when backing up at about 30K. Went in and they did the brake recall again. Yes, new pads and front rotors. Now at 45K they are starting to squeak again. Now I am just trading it in on an 08.5. :D :D :D :D :D :D No more squeak.
Mine do that when it's cooler outside, but only until I get just the slightest little bit of heat in them. By the time I've gotten to the end of the street, it quits. I don't sweat it.
Mine do the same thing. I have a new 2008 and they squeel in reverse and forward. Mainly in reverse. But only when it's cold, when it hasn't been driven for several hours. It goes away in the first mile. I will mention it at my first oil change (dealer freebee).
..wondering what kind of brake pads are in the 08 Titan?? possibly ceramic?
My 05 did, my 07 did. I just got it repaired this Tuesday. We put on new pads and problem is gone for now.
noise when brakes are wet or cold when first driven is normal. if its happening at operating conditions, most likely the pads or rotors are glazed, assuming you arent hearing the wear indicators.

I agree. Mine do it when in reverse only after going through mud/water. After a high pressure wash they stop making noise.
I am assuming you guys are talking about the classic high picked squeel you get on brakes when they need to be replaced. I was told by the dealer that, at least on the 2008 and newer, is the result of the ceramic brake pads. They get worse as it gets colder but its normal.

This isn't the problem I'm having. After my truck sits in my garage, I back out in the morning and get this lower pitched, really loud, metal on metal sound. The shop keeps saying its the brake squeel but there's no way. I thought at first it was a hub. Any ideas?
