About six weeks ago I was able to pick up an 04 4x2 SE with bog tow for $4500, knowing it would need some work.

Here's how it's coming along so far.

External -
Rustoleum Peel Coat metal flake black finish on the hood (faded Texas paint)

Roof plastidipped to protect from further uv damage.

Chipped chrome mirrors, grill & bumpers (front back) plastidipped black.

A few small Paint chips and scratches filled on the body.

Bull Bar & 24" light bar added to hide small center bumper debt.

BED - Roll on bed liner added, first time, definitely could have come out better, but I'm happy to have it protected.

3rd brake light bulb replaced.

REAR END:
Blown passenger seat axle seal replaced + new bearing

Axle vent was not stuck to my surprise, axle vent mod done anyway, ran to passenger taillight.

Other side seal looks good.

EXHAUST:
Cracked manifold and two dead cats.

Replaced with JBA long tube headers, custom 2.5 inch down pipes, new o2 sensors, y pipe deleted, Dynomax x muffler added, dual exhaust pipes w/ 3 inch solo performance t330 resonated tips.

INTERIOR:
Seat covers installed to hide small tear drivers seat. New weather guard floor mats.

Engine / Tranny - solid @200k miles - seafoam in vaacum hose to clean out the engine - not as bad as I suspected, I have limited maintenance history.

Transmission hoses to soon be replaced with 5/16 fuel line.

Front suspension - was very lose when I bought it. Knew it needed to be replaced.

Bilstein 5100s front and back, new upper and lower ball joints, tie rod ends, sway bar end links, boots. Two inch cnc-ed strut spacers.

Wheels Tires: stock wheels, worn tires

Probably 10,000 miles left in them if that - will soon replace with TkO 17x8.5 -6 & 295/70/17.

Plasti dipped the wheels for now, as everything else was black.

Planned for the future:
UPREV
Air box mod
Pre runner style bumpers *fabbed*
McNeil fenders and bed sides

I'll attach a few pictures, more to come.

Give me some suggestions, let's build this thing!

Be careful replacing the tranny coolant lines. Do NOT use anything other than hose SPECIFICALLY for trans fluid. Today's hoses are not just pressure rated; they are also made of specific compounds to withstand the chemical breakdown with various fluids. Brake fluid, radiator fluid, transmission fluid, all have distinct chemical properties that their hoses must resist. If you use brake hose on the transmission lines, they will rupture. Ask me how I know... Use the right type of hose for the right type of fluid. You have been warned. :dunno:

Thanks for the post. I have a 04 Titan 4x4 LE that has over 200k miles. Love the truck. I'm putting Bilstein 5100's on it this weekend. I'm embarrassed to admit that it still has the original shocks and I got the truck with 98k miles.

Be prepared to kick yourself for not doing the shocks sooner.

I know... hey thanks for all the information you've shared with the forum. I read about your new truck. Congrats. I have a travel trailer just under 7k pounds that I get pushed around a lot of the highway. Its making me look at the new XD or a 3/4 ton.

What weight distributing hitch are you using? I tried pulling my toy hauler with just a plain hitch and there was enough sway that I was uncomfortable. I Put the WDH on and the sway went away.

It's a haul master WDH. I even have a sway bar link that goes on. When I get by cars I feel it. When I get passed by trucks the pucker factor sky rockets

The Titan is somewhat light by 1/2 ton standards. So it may get pushed around a bit more than other half tons. But a good solid WDH will greatly reduce the pucker factor.

I'll second what HRTKD said. Not sure how good my WDH is but it had good reviews and it proved to do a good job. I just finished a 2300+ mile cross country trip pulling a 7k lbs trailer and it never felt like I was going to lose control. I felt the push when the 18 wheelers passed me by and it wasn't much. But I also have a few things added to help with towing, like E rated tires filled to 60 psi, helper springs and good shocks. My front coilovers are cranked up quite a bit so I'm sure that helped stiffen and stabilize the front as well. Not sure if logic is right but my wheel spacers gave me a wider stance so I'm guessing that it might have helped too.
