I've read quite a few complaints from different Titan owners about the build quality of the Titan and the many problems it has. Granted, there are more good reviews than bad reviews, but the build quality issues concern me. One of the main selling points for a truck is its reliability. No one wants a work vehicle that they can't count on. So I'm wondering if these build issues and reliability problems are just flukes on a few lemons or if it is on overall issue affecting all the trucks. What especially concerns me is the new Endurance engine. Being new and as of yet untested by time I'm curious to see how it will hold up. If build quality is an issue then this monster engine will be for nothing. What good is a 300hp beast under the hood if it can't run at it's best whenever called upon.

So what are your impressions? How would you rate build quality from 1 to 5, 5 being the best? I've always assumed Nissan has great build quality, especially with the newer models, but who knows, it might be the opposite way around. So what's the verdict?

No vehicle is perfect, but the only issues that I have are minor. I would attribute the major problem with the radio as a Rocford Fosgate issue and not a Nissan issue.

It is a new truck with new technologies, so I would give it a 4 out of 5.

I would say somewhere between a 4 and 4.5 at this point.

I have not had one problem with the truck I would call a show stopper by any means. I expected a few minor tweaks being a brand new truck line.

My problems thus far:

Loose mudflap driver side front.
Loose Tailgate plastic on rear.
Radio reception could be better.

That's it! With 5300 miles on the truck in around 50 days you just can't imagine the smile that is still on me and the wifes face every time we drive this truck.

Reliability? That will show over time and in the end. But, being a Nissan buyer for many years, I expect the longevity I have had with others. I literally have yet to have one major problem of any regard with a Nissan vehicle.

Items in my experience with Nissans that 'wear' and will need replacing on a somewhat normal schedule:

Shocks/Struts - Usually good for 80k miles.
Timing Belts - 60k and do this regularly - the truck has a chain so we are good for 105k.
Cylinder Head Temp/O2 Sensors - 80-100k.
Water pumps - 80-100k
Altenators - 100+k
Engines - (This from Z31 exp and board members) High 100's low 200's before 'issues' (seals etc)
Auto Transmissions - 150k+

One thing to note with Nissans - IF you have a failure definately replace with Nissan Factory parts and you will be much happier in the end. A lot of aftermarket parts such as sensors and altenators are not nearly as good and don't last as long.

Once again, this has been my experience. The lowest milage I have ever gotten rid of a Nissan with was 78k on a leased Sentra years ago and only because I needed a bigger car. The most I have had on an odometer was 342k miles on a Z31 style 300ZX.

If you get on the forums of Camry and Accord, you'll think the same. People mostly post only whey they have a problem, small or big or even when they can't figure out something.

I have a 95 Previa and all I have to do was to change oil and it just keeps running (175kmiles). But I wouldn't have bought one If I'd read those complaints on their forum.

Also, it's too early to tell.

My biggest complaint is that I have to put gas in it so often. I drive 350-375 miles and it wants to be fed again. Now if they made it so that I didn't have to do that, I would rate it a 5. As it is I give it a 4.5.

This is my first full size truck and i'd give it a "5"! The engine, ride, and handling for a 5200 lb truck is astonishing. It's comfortable and quiet even with the BigTow mirrors. I can't wipe the grin off my face. :upsidedow

As for issues others have mentioned, so far my RF has been really good, no tailgate handle issue to date, no bed-liner bubbles, and the ticking has gone away after 2550 miles. And to top it off mine appears to be one of the first few to come out of the factory (11/03 Build Vin: 501795).

My complaints:

1. Crappy bezel around the gauges. It sounds like styrofom rubbing together. Always have to beat on the dash a couple of times till it stops..VERY VERY annoying.

2. Headlights. Very bright, but too bright. I get flashed NON STOP. Almost wished I had foglights to show people my brights aren't on.

3. Weird rattle coming from the passenger side. It's gone when someone is sitting there...thank goodness.

4. Doors sometimes don't close all the way. I don't know if it's the amount of seals on the door edges or what, but it takes more of a whack than most doors. My wife and I find ourselves having to go back and really slam it good. This isn't too bad, I'd rather have this issue and a quite door.

5. Thin sheetlmetal. The doors feel like like cardboard compared to my wifes navigator. Also, when I go through the drive thru carwash, the blower on the top makes the roof vibrate excessively. Wonder if that's how nissan saved alot of weight?!

Other than that, it's a good truck. I've owned a 02 F150 Harley, 02 F150 FX4, 03 Chevy 2500HD CC and now a Titan. I would put the nissan in 1st place above them all for features, price, etc. No regrets..but first year models...

1. my bezels fine, you might wanna find where its coming from exactly and fix it, very easy.

2. your lights may be out of aim, ive had np at all with it. only guys who get shined are slammed honduhs and ricemobiles who get it from all big trucks.

3. same as 1

4. i agree id rather have a tightly sealed cabin then a leaky whistling one lol. im quite impressed how tightly it seals considering how big it is...as long as the seals stay in place that is...

5. have you compared it to the big 3's trucks that compete with the titan? youll be pleasantly surprised.

the last thing I would worry about is the engine & transmission

Nissan makes Great & reliable engines

the VQ series of V-6's have been award winning motors for 10yrs

Nissan has been making a 4.5L V-8 that the 5.6 engine is based on for more than a decade too

I've had no problems to report. I thought there was a raddle from the passenger side like reported earlier in this thread. After some diggin around it was only the seatbelt latch clacking off the door trim when not in use. There is not much room there. But I think like most new owners I over scrutinize every little thing. I will take a ride at night with all the windows rolled up stero off and nitpick. So far no regrets, 13.9 mpg on first tank. Setting the tires to 36psi helped the ride alot, and the using the fob to roll down the windows is neato. Thanks guys. 5 -5

So far I rate the Titan a"5" as well. I'm in my 6th day of ownership and ~200 miles I haven't had any show-stopping problems. I also have the squeaking around the gauge housing but it's nothing the radio cannot drown out. Speaking of the radio....I'm very pleased with the sound. Much better than my friend's Bose system in his 350Z. However the eject button doesn't work on my RF system but it does eject all CDs when you start the truck after stopping. It's annoying but I can deal with it until they replace the radio. As for the reception, since I only listen to CDs or my Ipod I haven't noticed that problem and it isn't an issue as radio stations in my town suck! When I plug the Ipod into the Aux jack, the volume level is about half of what the CDs are. Again, nothing so far that will wipe the grin off my face!! :upsidedow

1. I know it's the bezel, because you can push on it and it stops.
2. Possibly
3. It's the passenger seat as the noise stops when someone is sitting in it.
4. Agreed
5. Yes, I've owned A 2001 Ford F159 Crew Cab 4x2, 2002 Ford F150 Crew Cab FX4 4x4, 2002 F150 Harley-Davidson, a 2003 Chevy 2500 HD Crew Cab 4x4...so I think I can effectively compare the Titan. Of course this thread was about problems with the Titan, not Ford, Chevy or Dodge. I had problems, albiet small with other brands too. I don't regret my Titan purchase one bit...it's priced well, very powerful, and looks great.
