Hi all, I am new to the forum and in the process of buying a '15 pro-4x without big tow package. The GVWR on the sticker is 7200 and everything I read has towing capacity at 9200. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

You need the GCWR - Gross Combined Weight Rating. That includes the weight of the truck and the trailer, combined.

As said above, the Pro4x should have the lower gears (3.36) which gives you the higher tow rating.

Easy check is to test drive it on the interstate and see what the RPMs are at 70mph. For a 3.36 geared Titan with the 9300lb tow rating it should run about 2k on the tach at 70mph.

In doing some reading on the forum and elsewhere online, it seems indicators for BT are tow hooks in the front (doesn't have) 7 pin in bed (doesn't have) transmission temp gauge (has). It has the rear differential lock button and from what I've seen that is the indicator for pro4.

The only true indicators of a "big tow" is the bigger mirrors and 3.36 gears. On post 08 Gen 1 Titans the Tow package consists of 7 pin (located on hitch, not in bed), hitch, and trailer brake wiring. But, the tow package does not give you the bigger gears, which in turn gives you the bigger towing capacity. On newer 08-15 (non Pro4x Titans) the bigger gearing comes with the max or supreme utility package. The Big Tow package was only offered on pre 08 Titans and is completely different than the tow package. Tow hooks are standard on all Titans except XE/S models, as well as the Transmission temp gauge, post 08. All Pro 4x's get the bigger 3.36 gears and the diff locker.

I wouldn't use the mirrors as an indicator. I've seen big tow Titans with the small mirrors and non big tow Titans with the larger tow mirrors.

The only thing I've found for sure is all Pro-4x has big tow. Aside from that, better run it up to 70mph for a RPM check to find out.

That is only because the previous owner swapped mirrors. A 3.36 geared truck always came from the factory with bigger mirrors.

Are you sure about that? I thought that the 04-07 off-road package came with 3.36 gears. So if you didn't order the tow package also then you had the standard mirrors, not the tow mirrors. As pointed out earlier, I have no idea about the '08+ features.

You are correct, in my mind I was still referring to 08+. Those early years had so many different configurations that were contradictory to the 08+ models and packages.

It's too bad the thread on model year differences died. It's hard to keep track of all this.
