April 22nd I was pulled over in Escondido on the corner of Escondido Blvd and Valley Parkway.
The friendly man in blue cited me for "moving infractions" pfft. :teeth:
Was cited for lack of displaying front license plate, tinted front windows, and & tinted tail lights.
The officer wasn't very talkative and my questions did not get a direct answer....:ftard:
I was issued a citation/fix it ticket and was told if the violations were corrected and signed for by another officer, I would only have to pay a processing fee for the citation.

Today, I received a wonderful letter from the Superior Court of California. I guess they wanted to remind me of my interactions with the friendly officer that day. They were good enough to send me a "courtesy notice" and let me know that I was charged with 3 violations: 5200 (not displaying front plate); 26101 (tinted tail lights); 26708A (tinted windows).
And then proceeded to inform me that a ticket had been issued for a grand total of $553.00!! wtf?

I have yet to deal with any law enforcement in CA, so I dont know the procedure. I have dealt with similar issues in other states, and have found that if you correct the violations and have them signed for, you pay a minimal fee; nothing close to the $553.00.

Anyone deal with similar issues here in CA? I will call the court house on Monday to verify.....but til then, just curious what other experiences have been.

Mediate the violations and the cost will drop.
The 553 is only there if you feel like paying the shakedown cost rather than untinting and adding the plate.

$553??? In Utah an equipment violation like what those 3 were would have only costed $40 each if you decided not to fix them! I always get pulled over for no mud flaps and just go bolt some on real quick and get it signed off and turn it in. There isn't even a processing fee.

Jay, that fine is if you decide not to fix anything and just straight out pay... after you "fix" the issues, any officer can verify and sign off the corrected section on the rear of the ticket. After that, you should only be charged an "administrative fee" for the matter (court filing fees generated by the case). If I were you, after getting them signed off, I would go to the traffic court clerk's office, show them the signed off cite and they can give you the cost of the admin fee...

California is so lame. It's no wonder the rest of the CONUS hates that state with a passion.

If you know a cop or someone who owns a garage im pretty sure you can have them sign it saying you removed them even if you didnt. Then when you get pulled over again just say u retinted them. I know for a fact you can do this because me and my girlfriend of done this alot because her windows are black and we have gotten 4 tickets for it and done that for everyone....Hope this helps let me know how you make out!

Yeah. The thought crossed my mind...just dont know of any cool cops. :bangit:
I already wet sanded the VHT off the tails...and have yet to display the front plate. Im thinking of displaying the front plate and having an officer sign off on them. If he questions the window tint at the time, I'll claim I have an appt for removal...and go from there. Im not pullin the tint off til the very last minute.
Wifey has a friend whose husband is CHP...but I guess he's by the book.:crying:

sucks to live in California, We dont have anything like that down here. thank God!!!
Oh, I'm sure you do... Your State just happens to not be broke, and local officials don't need to be out generating revenue to fund the broken budget, or statistical citations to make themselves look productive and necessary...

So, in Cali you can't have any tint on your front 2 side window's?

I guess they don't want all the MMJ patient's over there driving into each other... LOL :) jk

You can't have anything done to your truck here! You get a ticket for tint, exhaust, head or tail lights tinted, having stickers on your back window (they don't normally ticket for it but can) I know someone who got a ticket for having an air freshner hanging from her rearview mirror....

When I was stationed at Edwards AFB my buddy got a ticket for having rosary beads hanging from the mirror...said it was obstructing the view of the driver!...lol! What a joke!

yeah I've had cops tell me my tint is too dark (40%) that if it was lighter they wouldnt mind as much, so.... I peeled it off myself, went to CHP and got it signed, then drop to the tint place and got 5%, if your going to pull me over becuase its too dark I'll make sure it actually is. a few weeks later I went to court and paid the $25 fee.
