Note: I bought this '04 Titan a few months ago as an individual sale in another town some distance away, so I didn't have any warranty on it. I didn't have it long when it started draining oil into the cylinder(s) when shut off and emitting a great cloud of oil smoke when it was started up and over the course of a long trip, it began to use more and more oil. Three different mechinics diagnosed the problem as leaking valve stem seals. A mechanic friend of mine and I removed the heads.
I took my Titan's heads to a machine shop for a valve job as the valve stem seals needed replacing. They also needed resurfacing as someone had previously had the heads off and had misused a scotch pad on them. One head is back together, but when the shop guy assembled the other head, the cam shaft binds somewhat in one spot in the rear exhaust cam shaft bracket when rotated. There are wear marks on the cam shaft "bearing". The machinist said he would't reassemble that camshaft as it has a problem and that I needed to get a replacement camshaft.
I checked online for an aftermarket camshaft but found none so far. I called a Nissan dealer and they will only sell a set of four for around $700 and I only need one. Does anyone know where I can buy just one camshaft or might have one they would sell? It is the exhaust cam, left bank (driver side). Any help would be appreciated.
