I ve been reading these forums for a while, but never posted. I have a problem with oil consumption after having both cats break apart. The first one on the driver's side started to rattle that was the only reason i even suspected it I pulled the exhaust back and pieces of the cat fell out. I cleaned out the rest of it and everything seemed find One week later I was pulling my boat up a hill when the right cat's insides spun and blocked th exhaust causing the cat to glow red. What i am wondering is if perhaps only the valve seals could have gotten to hot from the hot valves. I am hoping that they did not take out the cylinders I was wandering if anyone else has had this problem with it just effecting the seals. It is a 2004 with extended warrinty , it has a stillen supercharger on it and the dealer refused to stand by the warrinty. It has only 5,600 miles on it and I only use for pulling my boat in the summer.Because Im hearing of other people with cat problems I am wondering if Nissan should not cover this Any input would be greatly appreciated

I installed it my self. Its a pretty straight forward install. Good directions just takes a little patience. Do you know what damage it did to Qships engine. I am hopeing to get away with just valve seals.

Sounds like the same problems Nissan is having on the QR25DE engines in the SE-R sentras.

On the sentras, there is no EGR valve, so the exhaust valves stay open a little longer than normal, thus creating a vacuum in the exhaust manifold. Once the Cat starts breaking down, the material gets sucked back into the engine and scores up the cylinder walls creating the oil consumption.

I don't know if the VK56 has an EGR valve yet, but if it doesn't, I can see this being the cause as well. I'm sure the s/c didn't "cause" the problem, but I'm pretty sure it accelerated it. The Vortech s/c has a disclaimer for this same reason.
