I got what I thought was a good deal on OEM step rails, new in the box, from a seller on Craig's list this week. As it turns out, they are actually steps for a Crew Cab, not a King Cab.

Here are my questions. 1. Is the overall length of the the Crew Cab rails longer than the king cab? 2. I went ahead and installed one on my truck and may just decide to keep them anyway (only my son who sits in the back will end up with an ackward step, and they seem to look OK). Obviously, the rear bracket does not match up with the predrilled holes on the step (the other two brackets line up perfectly. Is there a way to drill out / tap a couple of new holes in the step in order to attach the rear bracket?

I appreciate any comments or advice.

My advice - sell them to me! :)

I suppose you could drill and tap for the rear bracket.

post the some pics if you decide to install them. seems like all the good deals ive found were for cc steps. some as low as $100 shipped on ebay but again i didnt know if they would fit or how they would look or mount.

I agree, it seems the CC step rails are easier to come by, which is why I was excited to find a NIB set of KC rails. It was well below zero when I met the seller outside, so I guess I did not inspect them closely enough to figure out that they were actually for a CC (in hind sight, the two plastic steps should have been my clue!).

Anyway, I will try to take some pictures during the day today. Here is one picture of the third / rear bracket which will need to be tapped. I feel myself leaning toward keeping them, since these are the "bird in hand". It's probably only TT members who will be able to tell the difference... I'm guessing the rails are the same length overall (CC vs. KC) since the wheelbase on both trucks is the same?

Attached is a picture of the rails mounted on the truck. I went ahead and drilled and tapped the holes for the rear bracket, so everything is solid. It really seems to be the placement of the plastic step inset that is the biggest difference between KC and CC, and the overall length *may* be a couple inches longer on the CC rails, but I'm not sure. For now I think I will live with this set up and let my wife quit complaining about getting into the truck.

Also attached is a picture of my backup camera "monitor" setup. I use a "hitch cam" brand camera, with a Garmin GPS as the monitor.
