Ok so i was really bored yesterday and came up of the idea to turn my Center Console into a ice chest. took some pics for you guys to check it out.

First i took out the 3 bolts out of the bottom and removed the other 3 holding the arm rest door on. then i pulled 2 more bolts out that were under the little plugs on the top.

Then drilled a hole in the floor with a 1/4 in drill bit for the rubber hose to drain out to under my truck.

After that i had to cover the 3 holes in the bottom with some homemade plugs made out of sheet metal and glued them on with weatherstripping glue.

Then drilled a hole in the bottom of the console box and had a little threaded brass fitting that i ground down and glued in in.

Waited for everything to dry and put it all back together

The hardest part was lining up the rubber tube to go through the floor cause its double wall steel on the floor so you have to keep trying till you get it lined up perfect and check under the truck to see if you can see the tube coming out i used another brass fitting to stick in the rubber hose at the end coming out of the truck

Now ADD ICE AND SOME DRINKS AND YOU GOT A WORKING ICE CHEST FOR YOUR TRUCK

I think that's going to be my next mod. btw anyone have any ideas on how to enclose the hole in front of the center console to make it a second center console and an ice chest :)
That's one of the best mods. But, I don't think I will try it. I dont think it would work well with the dvd player. LOL
If anyone can figure out a way to install the electric module thing I would be sold instantly.
great mod tho!

Putting a plug in the drain so it held water would slow the ice melting but increase the condensation issue... Put that with an insulating foam and you should be set.
This mod reminds me of a time when a bud of mine emptied and cleaned out his washer reservoir. Ran a longer tube from the output (going to the wiper blades) into the glove box. Got us our 32oz Cokes and VOILA!!! He would hit the washer spray button and well.....You know the rest. Stupid a$$ teenagers :) :)
that is awesome that crossed my mind before too!!
I bought a small plastic trash can at Wal-Mart and trimmed it up a bit and put it right down into the center console. Serves the same purpose for cheap with little to no effort. All you gotta do is pull it out and dump. :eyebrow:

still trying to figure out how to do the refrigerator part..
ive been wanting to do it and ill give you a hint since i work 15 hour shift dont have time so yea Dodge Caliber........in other words that car has a fridge in the glove compartment already when you buy it new
I am extremely tempted to do that!
wow very cool mod. Thanks for including the pictures. If only there was a way to change the console hinge so that passengers wouldnt have to reach over the lid to get to the drinks.
this makes you the bartender too!
maybe integrate a tip cup?
or a bottle opener?
Well I am FINALLY going to do this mod. I am going to try to finish it up tomorrow and post some pics. Summer is here and it is just that time!

make it a refrigerator!
The wife's Hyundai Veracruz has a vent from the A/C into the console to keep stuff cold. The only problem is that it works off of the driver's temp setting so if you want it real cold, YOU have to be real cold. I've thought about doing something like that in the truck but route it straight off the A/C...or could do that to the cup holders and use vent-type closable louvers for the output. At least no drainage necessary. I would need to be very bored to tear apart my console for that though!
Hey would this work for the king cab center console? its the flip up to a seat.... I thought about doing it but it is kinda small and was wanting to get more info! great mod tho
