What kind of brake pads should I get when the ones on my Titan wear out? I've heard a lot about ceramic brake pads being better because they are cooler, grip better, and their dust residue does not cling to your rims. Is this real or is this just hype?

Robert,

My understanding of brake pads in general...

Softer Brake pads=less wear on rotors but create more dust.

Harder Brake pads = More performance but harder on rotors and less dust.

Materials in brake pads - Different materials provide different effects on the above. Ceramics are 'cooler' with less fade and actually gain a little performance over a soft pad...however, rotor wear is increased quite a bit.

So it really depends on what your goals are.

Less mess? Harder pad.

More performance? Harder pad or different pad material geared towards performance.

Lower Maint cost? Soft pads will let your rotors etc last much longer...the downside is more replacement of the pads AND more dust.

I think that covers it?

Harder pads may also not brake as well when they are cold. So your first several stops in the morning, after pulling out of the garage, may be looooooooong stops.
