Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has chips in there Titans instead of the programmers? If so do you like it and what brand are you using. If I go with a programmer it seems that the bull dog is the one to go with just want to see if anyone runs chips instead.

Thanks

Do a search on UPRev. It's superior to anything on the market for your Titan. I ran the Bullydog for a short time, only to switch to UPRev later. You won't be disappointed. It's an investment that can be expanded as your mods increase. I recommend Seymore4.

Uprev is the shiznit for sure!

FYI, you can't put a "chip" in anything these days.

I was just about to post a question about performance chips and found this thread. I've got an 09 Titan Pro-4X with a Nismo cold air intake, stock exhaust etc. It runs out very nice but I'd like to bump it up a bit. I have to admit my ignorance when dealing with ECUs being somewhat of an old school shade tree mechanic on motorcycles and my old Ford truck with points. I did modify the ECU on my 2007 Triumph Rocket 3 with a new tune and exhaust/intake upgrades getting up to 160hp at the rear wheel. That is my sole experience with an ECU.

Thus I am very reluctant to do anything at this time except a chip replacement. My cousin is down visiting from Alaska and he is pretty savvy about diesel upgrades, getting his old Cummins up to over 400 hp and over 750 ft pounds of torque. He has recommended that I start with a chip such as the PCD Performance Chip Stage 1 since it is apparently a direct replacement for the stock chip in the ECU.

Now for the hard part of disclosing my total ignorance. Where is the ECU on my Titan? There I said it. I don't have a shop manual so should get one I suppose. Again, this is just a start to see if a chip will just get me a wee bit better performance and fuel economy and not to turn it into a road burner, well, at this time.

Anything I've ever seen about chips is that they tweak your car into thinking it's cold so it runs a little richer thus more gas and a little more initial take off, but does not increase HP and sure as hell no MPG. I would stay away from chips.

Like others say, the Uprev is the holy grail for the Titan, but the BullyDog and the Superchips seem to do pretty good if you want a relatively inexpensive bang for your buck. That being said, if you plan on modding your engine, the Uprev is probably the way to go. If you are just looking for a little boost out of a mostly stock engine, then BD or SC is good. I run the BullyDog and I am very happy with it.

Just to re-iterate, there are no physical chips that you can swap into a modern ECU. If they do exist, NOBODY is using them. You do not need to locate the ECU that is located directly behind your battery :)

For less than 1500 bucks, you can make a call to Cajun tuning and get an exhaust plus tune package that will add about 40 rwhp to your truck.
If you want just a few extra hp, then get the UPREV for 500.....It's far and away THE BEST "chip" available for Nissan/Infiniti vehicles.

Thank you guys. Interesting video but that sounds like an ebay eastern Europe scam.

This is the one that was recommended to me. It does appear to be to good to be true.

It is not a chip to be installed in the ECU as I had thought but rather you splice the wires by cutting into the
MAF, MAP or 3/4/5/6 wire IAT combo sensors, depending what the vehicle has, and splicing in the "chip". It is more complicated than I thought though I am sure not for a competent mechanic who is familiar with all of this.

It also requires the up the octane rating to at least the 89 or premium. Screw that.

You can just do the Uprev tune, even on a bone stock Titan it makes a big difference. We reflash the factory ECU via the OBD2 port, makes it 100% custom tuneable. The plug n play tuners (bullydog, superchips, hypertech) do give you some uumph but just do not compare to what we can do with a truly custom tune. Shoot me a PM if you have any questions

No way would I cut a wire on a newer truck with all the electrical issues that can happen. Don't waste your money...

Splicing wires leaves the door wide open for some weird stuff to happen, since modern CAN systems are sensitive to resistance.

Will do seymore. That is what I did to my Rocket, downloaded a custom tune, essentially "reflashing the ECU.I downloaded the software to do it from a guy in France and used a standard custom tune which had some issues. I then had it tweaked by a performance tuner in Australia. I sent him my tune file and he sent it back a modified tune that fixed my issues. It avoided the use of add on gadgets like a Power Commander, which I take it is similar to some of the tuning products presently out there for our Titans.

I have wondered why it can't be done for my Truck but now I know it can. I'll shoot you a PM.

Edit: And Nightowl and Lubecakes, ya got that right. The idea of cutting into any part of my wiring harness sounds really dicey.
