Clicking sound coming from front of engine

I've had my 2017 titan for 3 months now and in the past 3 weeks, I've heard a clicking sound coming from the front of the engine - can't hear anything when inside the truck. When the truck is started up and is idling - there is no clicking BUT after I drive it for a while and then stop and let it idle, then I can hear the clicking. Took it to the dealership today and had both the Service Manager and the head mechanic come and listen to the clicking - Both stated that it's not coming from the engine most likely from either the cooling fan or belts. Left the truck with them and when they restarted the truck - no clicking - they inspected the cooling fan assembly and serpentine belt assembly for any irregularities - none found. So I picked up the truck and drove home - when I got home, my wife was outside and said that she can hear the clicking sound. So this is starting to drive me nuts. Oil pressure is good as well as the oil level - anyone have any ideas/suggestions

Wouldn't the clicking sound be constant ??? At start up - no clicking; drive a bit and then idle - clicking

This was talked about before if you search. Had the same issue. Some mentioned it could be the oil filter? Had the filter changed and it went away for a week than came back. Brought it back and they swapped the filter out again. So far it's been 3 months and the clicking has not come back. Still had some other noises going on around the engine compartment so I had the serpentine belt changed. Now the engine sounds a bit more quiet when idling

Another issue that I had with the Titan was an oil leak - yesterday the dealership resealed the oil pan and basically gave me a complete oil change (including new oil filter) - since then no clicking sound - Will now wait and see what if anything happens with the clicking

Well took the Titan to the dealership this AM and when I arrived and drove into their drive thru, I stopped and got out of the truck (left the truck running) and the clicking was there - so I went into the service dept and told the service advisor that it was clicking and she got the top technician who came over and plugged a computer into the truck and opened the hood - between the computer and what looked like a sort of listening device he then told me that YES it was the cooling fan coupling that was making a knocking/clicking sound. They replaced the fan coupling and so far so good - NO KNOCKING/CLICKING SOUNDS. I have no idea what a cooling fan coupling is and does - can anybody help to explain this device to me - Thanks

ok so i posted the YouTube video of the clicking sound and someone tell me that i had the clicking problem..and got a fix by replacing the actuator for the grill louvers..and tell me that the noise went away..i think that it must be the one..that cause the clicking sound..:eek_surprise:

So here the update on my clicking went to the dealer today. There going to change the louver grill.it doesn't not work properly. it in close position went you start the truck then it open and when the temperature outside is cold it suppose to shut back to heat up the engine faster and mine do not shut back that is wen the click occur. The louver is back order they will get it in 3 to 4 week.will keep you updated on the clicking noise then..

Interesting, I checked mine yesterday (Feb 6th) and at start up, it was open and after several minutes of idling remained open (it was -15 C). I'm going to have to check it out again. Be curious to know (once they install the new louver grill) if your clicking disappears.

Thanks for the reply and yes i will let you now on the install of the louver grill..your still doesn't click'after the fan clutch change..if it click again let us now..sure want to fix this issue. .I showed your post to the tech and was toll that our louver should stay open wen it cool. it was design that way.. it was install on our truck just for the full economies.it shut at 30 klm and reopen at 140 klm.i will try to put the gopro on the grill to see the movement of that louver..

No clicking since cooling fan clutch replacement. Reading about the "Active shutter grille vents", it sounds like they have nothing to do regarding helping to warmup the engine when it's cold. Their purpose appears to be for aerodynamics only and work only when the engine isn't working hard by diverting the air flow from the engine bay

"my white titan" have you had the cooling fan clutch replaced on your Titan yet ???

So funny thing.... I bought a demo half ton platinum reserve, today that it got warmer here up north, my truck started overheating, I shut it off and called he dealer which the closest is 450km away, as soon as I mention it to the service manager he tells me that he knew what was going on, turns out that they heard the clicking sound on my truck while it was theirs and they disconnected the fan and they forgot to connect it before they sold it to me, basically I guess when the winter comes again I will be hearing the clicking sound, but I will make sure they take care of that through the summer, I plugged the fan connector back in and left the truck running for a long while and temperature is fine, good thing it's been pretty cold since I bought the truck in February.

How can they disconnect a fan clutch :eek_surprise:they is no electrical connection on and fan clutch.. it work whit a spring and whit the heat of the engine that spring contract and engage the fan clutch..or the other way is to remove the fan clutch whit the fan that a big no no have your truck check a soon as possible..it under warranty.since your far away have a local mechanic check it out ..open you hood and tell us is there a fan on front or the radiator..

I believe it is the slats that automatically close when cold, sort of like an electric winter front. i asked a dealer about mine today as making the same noise. when first started they are open, then once driving they close. i havnt dug any further yet but am trying to figure out how to close them them disconect the motor, the ticking sound is the motor still running trying to close the fins. if you look through your grill you will see them ahead of the rads.

when i started it todat no noise but once driving they close and the ticking starts, maybe a fix coming out for it, from nissan, but i was just going to try and deactivate for winter as they will want to be closed all the time anyways.

hope that helps

Well my clicking sound has returned (sounds completely like before) - taking the truck to dealership tomorrow - will see what they say

Mine also ticks at idle right after you start it up. It also takes a really long time to heat up, longer than any other car I've had. Could be the cooling fan or the louvers, so will have my service advisor take a look.

Thanks for the info! Will report back when I find out what my ticking is.

My clicks only occur after the truck warmed up - Anyways took it to the dealership - they ran the latest ECM update and so far no more clicking

Mine clicks like an old John Deere tractor when cold....had it in today for the seatbelt recall and they said it was the idle air control valve....reprogrammed the ECM. We will see. I think it's the clutch fan.

I had the clicking sound in my 2017 Titan CC. I looked at all of the 2017 Titan and Armada clicking noise videos on YouTube. I also made a video of my truck clicking and went to my dealer in Eastern Missouri. I described the problem and let them look at my video and left the truck with them. They called today and advised the truck was fixed. The receipt shows they did a ECM software upgrade only and refers to NTB17-053.
They also performed the transmission ECM and TCM software upgrade that refers to NTB17-016E. Very smooth acceleration now from a dead stop and no flat spots when reaccelerating from downshifts. I was skeptical when they told me their fix was a software upgrade but so far no tick.

Have the same clicking noise coming from my 2017 Titan PR. Did phone the local dealer and they've told me to bring it in. I will show them the forum and a video. taking it in tomorrow 1-11-2018.

My passenger door keeps on freezing every time the temperature drops below O degrees Celsius. Anyone else have this problem?

I brought my truck in for it's first oil change the second week of january and to check the knocking noise, was told the same thing "it's the fuel pump"I took it in today because the noise is louder and it's tied to engine RPM so if it is the fuel pump and the pump is electric how is it tied to engine RPM?
going to take it in in a couple of weeks and they will check it out!
My wife on the other hand is pissed because we traded off a lemon titan and bought this truck!

I now have a new tapping/clicking sound from the engine. To me, it sounds very different from the one I had before. The sound now is very audible and is constant - especially noticeable when first starting a cold engine and seems to be coming from rear of engine. Taking it to the dealership to have it checked out.

Did you have ticking noise resolved yet?
My 2017 SV Titan sounded like this..
After reading many posts I figured it was an ECM upgrade it needed and Nissan has the following service Bulletins out for this problem, NTB 17-053 (ECM Software upgrade) as well as NTB 17-016E ( Transmission ECM & TCM software upgrade). They told me it was normal at first, after they did the upgrades problem has been solved for the last month or so.

I take my truck in this Thursday (Mar 14th). Your clicking is identical to the clicking sound that I experienced when I first got my truck - they replaced the fan coupling and the clicking disappeared.

What I'm hearing now is different - I fear "Piston Slap" as someone else has experienced
