I found this thread on CT the other day since i'm wanting to convert my column shift to center console. I have a crew cab so I don't need the middle seat up front the rear a/c vents would be pretty cool plus the cup holders in the back, not to mention the storage space compartment.
Another thought I had was if it would be possible to install a B&M ratchet or Gated style shifter in the titan? Those two shifters wouldn't be that great on a stock titan trans because you would still have delayed shifting, but if you had a transgo shift kit like i do and others on here, then it would be more enjoyable with a ratchet or gated shifter.
Here is the how to I copy and pasted from Club Titan, this isn't my posting or my install btw... credit to CT member Beto01 who did this and it seems pretty easy.
"Hey guys you're right, i should of taken pics while doing the mod but i can explain it in detail. The mod cost me $235 in parts but it just depends on where and who you buy from, i found the console and the shifter complete from Rockford Parts thru their E-Bay store and the other parts i bought locally from my dealership here in Vegas. I have a hook up at the parts counter with the pricing all he asks for is a six pack of Coke when he helps me out and it's free shipping! There are two parts that you will have to order besides the console and shifter and they are:
By-pass air duct #27890-7S010
Steering cover set #48470-A6003 (depends on color! this is steel)
You first need to remove the center jump seat and underneath disconnect the power that is used for the 12volt power plug before you pull it out. After you remove the jump seat there is a small tray which serves as the cup holder almost like a little console but its useless, i cant beleive that Nissan actually used this but it's only if your truck came without either a center console or jump seat and it's used for covering the ABS controller. Afterwards remove the stereo cover and disconnect all the connections and place out of the way and replace the 14mm screws you remove from the jump seat back to where they were, if not you can get moisture or noise come in from under the truck. Next remove the lower panel underneath the steering wheel and the column covers, you will have to disconnect the **** cable from the column shifter-it just slides off. You will have to move the cable from its side position to a straight position going directly underneath the stereo, it will be easier if you remove it and pull it out from the firewall and then put it back in straight(be careful not to bend too much!) and then reattach to firewall. You do not have to remove the cable from the tranny! only from the column, you re-use your cable since they are all the same! Nxt you need to cut out the vent holes and then attach the duct so that you will have air at the vents at the back of the console.
Now you can place the console in the truck but not tighten it down and the shifter should have allready been installed into it and tightened down, make sure you slide the console to the front making sure the duct slides into the duct tube on the console and make sure the mounting holes line up. All the Bolts you removed from the old parts you took off you re-use to install the console. It attaches at the back to the ABS Module bracket and at the front it attaches to where the cup holders were on the floor and right below the stereo face cover are two screws. Go ahead and tighten it down now, at this point you can shift but you have to press down on the shift lock release lever on top of the shifter since we have not hooked up the power to the release coil. You can now replace the stereo faceplate and reconnect all the connectors. My console came complete including the wire harness which was sweet!, you need to remove the actual shifter now from the column using a 10mm, you have to disconnect the plug at the side of the column. you will also see the switch for the lower gear signal and the coil lock release, those are the two main connections you have to worry about. I cut the wires at the female side and left at least an inch to spare since the connector from my console is not the same so i cut that one off completely and wired them to the female connector, i wanted it to seem as close to original and did not just wan to splice and tape wire together. Next i removed everything that has to do with column shifter from the steerin column, everyone thinks you need a cloumn from an SE to do the mod but you dont! Next i hooked up all the wiring and confirmed everything was working and shifts even better! And yes when you shift it indicates it on the cluster what gear your on, I then replaced all the parts back including the new steering cover lower dash panel snapped on the shift bezel and done! I just had to reset my ABS since you will need to when you disconnect the connectors behind the stereo faceplate. I will take pics and get the wiring specs soon!"
I have the stock grey and black colored interior, is this color called ''steel'' from Nissan's interior selection?
