I have 06 Titan, dealer said it was capable of towing horse trailer, horses, hay, camping gear and horse tack. My ex says I'm going to kill myself and the kids, he said the Titan can't pull this much wieght. He wouldn't loan me his truck or go with so I bought the Titan. All this stuff wieghts around 8,000 lbs. Can I just hook up and go? Besides a brake controler is there anythind else I need?

if you have big tow you are rated to about 10k. you will need the brake controler, but other then that, just take it easy, watch the trans temp, and downshift if/when you need to. with that much weight, stay out of overdrive.

I would take the loaded trailer to a scale just to make sure you are under the load limit.

King Cab or Crew Cab ?

Big Tow package (hitch, relays, big mirrors, tranny temp gauge) ?

I would replace the spring shackles with 2008+ shackles and make sure it had a decent set of LT tires and shocks (like Bilsteins). The ATF rubber cooler lines are known to fail, so I would replace those with ATF cooler rated hose and clamps. OEM Cooling is pretty good, although the stock radiator is part plastic and prone to cracking. You can get a better all aluminum radiator from CSF. Some people bypass the ATF cooler in the radiator and add an aftermarket cooler to avoid any possibility of mixing ATF and antifreeze if the radiator fails. Make sure your brakes are good, you can upgrade with aftermarket brakes like Frozen Rotors/ Hawk LTS pads. Some people have upgraded to the larger 2008+ front brakes, which requires 18" or larger wheels and hub spacer rings.

I think the guys that tow heavy use equalizing sway control hitches and some of them run airbags. You need to pay attention to tow rating, tongue weight and GVWR, which you can find at nissanhelp.com

if it has the big mirrors, a receiver hitch, and trans temp gauge, chances are you have the big tow package truck.

Im with bestatchess on the shackles and other stuff. he speaks the truth.

Receiver hitch, trans temp, mirrors slide out for towing, somthing called tow mode (I assume you use that when towing:) Wow now the other stuff I guess ill just make a list and go to the mechanic! Who knew. I guess ill just keep it local and stay out of the mountains this year. Ok off to walmart parking lot tonight to learn how to back up!

Tell your ex you can take care of yourself. You have the big tow package and your truck is fully capable of hauling 8000 lbs.

not everything bestatchess stated was required. just stuff to watch out for and or upgrade in the near future.

all the titans have tow mode, but the mirrors, trasn temp, and hitch are a pretty good indication you have a big tow titan. the best way to tell is to look on the door placard and see what gear ratio you have.

for that much weight i would def go with the 08 shackles. (you can get them aftermarket from PRG). the next time you do brakes, upgrade those two.

Everything that bestatchess mentioned is an upgrade or a fix for a common problem with Titans. But, having said that, even the common problems are not that common. Make sure your brakes are in good shape, use the tow mode, don't tow in overdrive, make sure your electric brakes, hitch, and trailer are set up properly, and start having fun. Do the upgrades as you can afford them. You're gonna love your new truck. (except for the gas mileage)

Trailer pulling just takes practice. Always remember you need more space to stop, swing wide on turns, if it wobbles, slow down, practice, practice, practice. Until you get good at it, make sure you park it in a place you can get out of without having to back up.
