Confused about Off-Road, Big Tow, Etc.

2006 4x4 SE Crew Cab. Says "4x4 OffRoad" on the bed.

So, I DON'T have a VDC button. I only have one button in the center, and it says "Tow Mode."

I have no idea if I have ABLS.

I see people talking about "a locker" in the rear end. I'm convinced that there should be a button if I have such a thing, but I see no such button. So, I assume I don't have a locker.

Did Nissan offer a Limited Slip in 06? Was that in the OffRoad package?

I think I have Big Tow, because I have the towing style mirrors (with the convex on the bottom - LOVE THOSE) and I have the transmission temp gauge in the dash.

This is all highly confusing.

Some useful info in there. I think the OffRoad package was the forerunner to the Pro-4X package.

Yeah, I looked through that one - thanks, tho - but it's almost more confusing when the 04-05 options come up, and then people start talking about 17 inch tires versus 18 inch, and I'm like, uh.....

I have 18 inch tires, which some folks say didn't come on the OffRoad, but then again, I'm an 06, and they're talking about 04, 05.

Any thoughts, anybody?
Are you the only owner? If not, he probably swapped wheels. Previous owner may have done so to get the big brake kit which is good for you.

As far as I've seen, if you don't have the locker button you don't have the OEM locker. No OEM Limited Slip either.

Not the only owner, but the sticker on the B post clearly calls for 18 inch, exactly what is on the truck.

You're an '06, so if you have a trans temp gauge, you are sitting on the big gears. The 3.36 gears. In '06, the Off Road truck came with 17 inch wheels, so if your sticker says 18s, you don't have the OR package. The OR package would also have included the e-locker. You just have an Off Road sticker.
I think you're confused due to being a unc fan! Too many "paper classes".

Ha ha ha :)

So, does YOUR JBA / Cajun setup pass NC inspection with no hook / crook / I know a guy kinda problems? (That's to Natedog...)

To Carbeaux - Tow hooks mean anything? I got those, too. I agree about BT. Big battery, all the other stuff. The highway "revs" match what they should for the big gears.

But you're saying somebody just put the sticker on???? How can I prove this? Nissan dealer the only way?
You could give them your VIN to see what it originally should have been. Probably easiest way.
Sorry to hi-jack the thread, but I am also very new to Titans and all you seasoned owners are a big book of awesome info. As you know I just picked up my very first Titan back in February. I bought a 2015 SV CC 4X4 with the value pkg. How do I know what gears I have and do I have the "Big Tow Pkg" my truck does not have a locker as it was only a PRO-4X standard feature but my truck did come with a tow hitch, as well as the e-brake harness, and it does have the TOW MODE button as well as the trans temp gauge. However, it does not have the tow mirrors and it only has one battery. Any clarification would be awesome. TIA
For your 2015 you can either look at the tag on the rear axle snout, and see if it says 2.9something or 3.5something, or you can see what your rpms are at 70mph. Over 2k? 3.36 gears.

You have the tow package which consists of the tow hitch, 7 pin plug and brake wiring, to have the bigger gears on the SV, you must also have the max utility package, which gives you the gears and bigger mirrors, your towing capacity is 7200 pounds with the 2.94 gears
Yes, so what I do is use uprev and put the factory program back on it. Drive it around 15-20 miles to get enough info for the computer then take it in. I still have factory bpipes so the sensor is in front aka a bad spot to pass inspection. But it worked for me last time.

Wow, that's a feature that I haven't had time to discuss with Nightowl yet. So.... the Uprev tuning doesn't turn off the Check Engine light? :frown:

I understand this might need to be a separate thread, sorry, admins...
It does turn it off. But when they plug it in to their machine it won't register. It's been a while so I don't remember the phrase for it. Nightowl sends you the specific tune for your truck and mods and he gives you the factory one. So right before the inspection I just reflashed my truck (2minutes) and took it in.

Before I knew the process I went straight to jiffy lube with out driving much with the factory settings back. So when I got there they plugged it in and their computer said there wasn't enough miles on the computer yet. So they printed out this sheet of steps to follow for a titan. It was something like go 0-35 slowly then hold 35 for 30 seconds. Next go 0-35 quickly accelerating. Next cruise between 55-60 for 2 miles blah blah blah so I went thru all the steps and took it back in and it worked. It gave the truck just enough information. I was really careful trying not to be hard on the truck because I didn't wanna trip the check engine right before I got it back to the shop. As soon as it passed I reflashed the truck in the jiffy lube parking lot and left lol

Wow. I guess it's simple if you've done it and you know it works, but it's all still a huge gamble for me. I'd be EXTREMELY frustrated to spend the money and not be able to pass the inspection. Thanks for taking the time to explain. At this point, there's no proof I even have a cracked manifold, just the codes that usually show up with one. Geesh.
Worst come to worst, after you install them and you can't get it to pass inspection with stock bpipes just get the high flow catted bpipes from Cajun. It moves the sensor behind the cat converter and will def pass. Right now for me there is nothing between the sensor and the engine. Factory had it so there was a cat in front of the sensor
E-locker was a late 2004 model release. my feb 2004 build titan does not have it-im glad too.

trans temp guage is a dead giveaway to the tow pkg. a lot of guys will swap mirrors so you cant always go by that.

off road pkg in an 06 should have a locker and the button should be down by the tow mode button. looks like you got a non-off road titan.

now the big question, did the dealer (or individual you bought it from) state that it had the 'off road package'? if so, have them show you where the e-locker button is located.

most (if not all) newer models have the transmission temp gauge regardless of what towing package they have (or don't have)

Apparently I do indeed have the 2.94 rear end. Since I don't plan to tow anything heavy like a boat or a big trailer then I guess I will be okay. Any pros and or cons you guys can share about having the 2.94 rear end.
